Well, we finally saw "Cloverfield" last night
The BF wanted to see it.

I wanted everybody in the movie to die within the first 20 minutes. I was rooting for the monster.

Good lord, it was "Blair Witch Project" meets Suck. I won't even go into the utter implausibilities in the movie, but the sheer stupidity and vapidity of the main characters was just astonishing. I WANTED them to die, and more slowly than the movie allowed.

The monster changed shape and size throughout the film, the CGI was totally obvious in spots, there was was little or no humor in it. I expected it not to be a great film, but thought it would at least be enjoyable. I was horribly wrong. I wanted it over and done with before the monster even showed up.

Alas, it went on for another hour, which in bad-movie-time, is more like 4 hours. Ugh.

1. I was burned by "The Blair Witch Project"
I succumbed to the hype...and dear God, that was disappointing, to say the least. "Blair Witch" was just plain dull. I was rooting for them to all die.

I guess you're supposed to be drawn to "Cloverfield" with scenes like the head of the Statue of Liberty rolling down the street....like the movie is full of such dramatic moments. Kind of like "Independence Day" when you see the aliens blowing up the White House. And I thought "Independence Day" was a big old crapfest.

I trust your judgement. Thanks for the warning.

3. Ugh...
I hated Independence Day, too.

I can suspend disbelief only so far.

I hated Blair Witch, too, and I have to honestly say, it was twice as good as Cloverfield.

4. As much as I thought Blair Witch sucked
I have to give it credit for being original.

2. It reminded me of Blair Witch meets Miracle Mile
Edited on Sat Feb-09-08 07:46 PM by Squeegee
Basically, the movie was the camera work of Blair Witch mixed with the story-line of The Miracle Mile, just substitute the monster with thermonuclear war. The characters were so annoying that I was rooting for the monster. I hope there is a sequel because then I know the monster survived to kill more idiots.

7. The whole movie was summed up, for me, towards the end as the guy behind
the camera is screaming "Do you see that thing?" I found myself shouting at the tv "NO! No I DON'T see it because you keep pointing the fucking camera at everything BUT the monster!"

A monster movie ought to show the frigging monster once in a while.

And what was up with over a THIRD of the movie being taken up by a pointless and dull party scene. Ok set up for the conflict. I get it. But 35 minutes of a 73 minute movie? That's just stupid.
