I watched "Across the Universe" last night.

God, what a wonderful movie this is. A musical, using Beatles' songs. I loved it. One of the most inventive movie musicals I've seen in a long time. I'm going to buy a copy for myself.

Just absolutely great.

2. I watched it again tonight

and found myself in tears again. Dammit, I'm a sappy old queen, and just twenty years too early.

I really wanted to see it in the theater, but it came and went so quickly.

4. We just bumped it up to the top of our Netflix list.

It now sits a #3. We're trying to see most of the nominated films before the Oscars, for a change.

5. At its best, it nearly totally grabbed me. A rare feat.

It's not perfect, some weak song performances, but soooo inventive across so many styles. There is true brilliance there, and it was completely snubbed for the awards.
