Why on earth would someone spend money to register the domain names

Why on earth would someone spend money to register the domain names
"deocraticunderground.com" or "democraticuderground.com" just in order to catch people who mistyped "democraticunderground.com?"

What are they hoping to accomplish by registering those domains, and putting pointless "landing pages" there, for people who mistype "democraticunderground?"

I don't get it. Any of you have any idea why anyone would do that?
