Why does everyone hate teenagers?
At least in the Parks and Rec department in my city?

There's a "Creative Baking and Pastry" course being offered at a community center like 5 minutes away from my house. I would absolutely love to take it - but I can't! Apparently, you have to be at least 19.

Seriously, why?

Why, with programs like that, can't they just say "General" or "Adult" and have people decide for themselves whether they're old enough?

Seriously... there are no parks and rec programs for teenagers here. Everything is either for the under-13 crowd, or over 18.

1. That is odd...
I wonder if it has to do with legal age ? Maybe they could get sued if you got hurt. I do think every town should have more for teens. Glad to see you want to learn, that is wonderful!
Good Luck :yourock:

3. What's weird is that...
Most of the fitness programs, where the risk of getting hurt is a lot greater, are technically 16+.

Although they're usually at weird hours, like 10 on Thursday mornings, when everyone under a certain age is in school anyway.

as to completely exclude people of a certain age bracket.

My parents dragged me on a Disney cruise when I was 18... you had to be under 18 to do the kid stuff, and over 21 to do the adult stuff.

Great planning there.

So yeah, I spent three days eating really nice meals and being BORED OUT OF MY GODDAMNED FUCKING MIND. If I'd known that ahead of time I would have planned for it and brought along things to do like books to read and whatnot.

7. Because the teens would just spraypaint the bread and stuff, and urinate on it cuz they're stoned
and stuff. Like. You know?

Totally.

Plus all the texting while the teacher is explaining how to make the pastry would be maddening, at least up until the point the gangbanging youth brought out their guns and killed everyone.

That's why teenagers are excluded - you're all stoned, sex-crazed, graffitiing vandalizing crackheads with too many gadgets and ADD caused by video games and that damned rock and roll music and guns. Oh, God, the guns!

10. It is because nearly everyone was miserable when they were teenagers so they want to make sure it is
miserable for everyone else. Seriously, most empty nesters love teenagers and will dote on them because it helps them miss their own kids less. At least my wife and I do.

11. Last year in the parks and rec dept in NYC the swimming program
was either for adults 18 and up, or kids 14 and under. My son was 17. I was like, what? 15-17 year olds can drown? What's up with that?
