Partner called - just got out of interview

job is basically a typist position and she's waaaaaaaay over qualified for that. pay sucks, no benefits, but if it's offered to her she'll take it, and keep on looking. no choice at this point, only has until end of march for unemployment.

1. Typist?

That sounds kind of archaic? What was the job advertised as? Even word processor sounds dated.

My sister used to move around alot, she was a cytotechnologist, now she's teaching HS science. When she couldn't get a job in her field, she'd work at Arby's, or Burger King. That's one thing I always admired about her. I don't know what I'd do if I lost my current job, but I always think driving a cab might be fun.

You end up dealing with druggies, drunks, zombies, vampires and psychos.

New York or Philadelphia?

9. 2 hours from us, at least

plus her truck is 11 years old, we're babying it along. no trains/buses etc for commuters in our area. nearest trains for commuter rails is in New York or Philadelphia

bad enough I have to drive an hour through the hinterlands and dodge deers to get to work

11. I wish you guys a lot of luck

My gf was out of work from April to August. She ended up taking the first job she was offered, at first she wasn't happy, but things ended up developing in her favor and now she enjoys working there. I wish you the least amount of stress possibly. Just hang in there together, things will work out.

but Craigslist has gotten really big on job ads. I didnt know this until recently. Have you tried looking at Craigslist for your city?

5. she's on all the job lists

spends 2-3 hours everyday scouring all the sites she can find, posting resumes etc.

plus networking and checking local papers

she's also signed up with every temp agency in the area

last month 350 jobs between two companies went **poof**

last night it was announced a third place is laying off 150 people due to the downturn in the economy..

that's 500 people out there scrambling for jobs in one small area

10. It's always harder to find a job when you don't have one

Once she takes this job, she'll probably find something better soon. If she thinks of it as a 6 month stint, she won't feel too bad.
