1. That happened to my dogs last summer.
They killed it and then rolled all over the carcass. It was hell for MONTHS.

11. I dunno - I know you meant well, but last night "euthanasia" might have seemed
like a pretty decent suggestion...

12. Yeah. I feel like sticking two garlic cloves up my nostrils, or two camphor balls -
anything to get rid of that godawful smell!

5. And then there was the time a skunk took aim at our bedroom.
In the summer we sleep with the outside bedroom doors open. A skunk walked past the open doors, Big Red Dog lunged at the door, barking hysterically, said skunk let Big Red Dog - and sound-asleep us - have it through the open door. Not a great way to wake up.

6. Here are some links to tips about removing the skunk odor
from the dogs:

And this is something that I would have never thought of:

RE: Removing Skunk Smell From A Dog
Post By Jeff (Guest Post) (11/24/2007)

Use female douche, 2 bottles took care of the smell for my dog. A dog breeder told me about this little trick good luck. PS this worked better than the peroxide/liquid soap/baking soda mixture did.

13. I've heard of telling the pharmacist that the douche you're buying is for a 'friend'.
But "It's for my dog"?? Nah, I don't think I could pull that one off.

Thanks for the suggestions, though. That was sweet of you.

9. happens around here about twice a week all fall
but then the dogs live outside. I think putting water on them or anywhere skunk spray hits is the worst thing you can do - it seems to set the stench. Best is fresh air and lots of it. Enzyme spray from the pet store will take care of it too if you have one near by.

Search my posts - we had one coming in the house a bunch of times this summer. Crazy - the cat never cared or bothered it, but dogs and skunks do NOT mix.

10. Got them but good!
And that is just plain BAD.

Soon as I got them inside, they jumped up on my bed and rolled around.
Damage: One heavy winter comforter, pillowcases, blankets, everything into the washer.
Will probably have to go through the wash cycle 5 times, at least.

I confined them to one room and ran to the store to get tomato juice, which is the only thing
that's ever worked. Have to mix it with shampoo and drench them in it, over and over.
But the store only had those iddy-biddy little cans in 6-packs - so I bought all 36 little cans.
Woman at the checkout counter smiled and said, "Bloody Mary's?"

I said "No, bloody skunk!"

The whole house still smells. I'm not having any company until 2012.

And how is your day going, so far?
