It's my birthday... I'm 25 (okay, so I'm a little numbers dyslexic...) Anyway, the kids
were being really loud and difficult in 4/5 block today, so I asked the, as a special birthday present, to give me a break and keep it quiet.

"How old are you?" asked one student, I gave him the answer above.

"No!" he said. You can't be! Maybe forty. But I think you look like you're in your thirties.

"Thanks, Jon, I'd give you an A for that, if I could, but I can't."

"No, no! I really mean it! You don't look 52!"

So I didn't get the birthday prezzie I asked for (Those kids have one setting and that is EXTRA EXTRA LOUD.

But the compliment was a nice consolation prize. :D

4. Since were are not in a small concrete block room with cement floors and hard desks
for the sound to bounce off and echo back in a continuous loop, you can be as noisy as you like.

School rooms are very utilitarian these days. Very little sound absorbing materials are used.

6. I'm a substitute teacher and that is both easier and harder than being a
contract teacher. I love it. I love teaching different subjects on a daily/weekly basis, and I also love the long term subbing jobs (three weeks, five weeks, seven weeks, three months, etc.)

I have relearned so much that I'd forgotten and learned new stuff too.

There are days when I wonder if I'm totally insane, but there there are other days.

One of the best days was when my son came home and told me that a student who was really intelligent, but very unhappy with her home life and always getting into serious trouble was now doing fine and on the straight and narrow.

I tried, whenever I was able, to show her a future where she would be in control of her life if she stopped doing the stupid (and prosecutable stuff).

She told my son that I had helped her a lot and she owed it, in part, to me that she had turned her life around.

If I can make a difference for the better to just a few of the students, then even the worst days are worth it.
