I can't talk long, because Internet time is a little pricey, but I wanted to check in and see how everybody was doing.
Having a great time; wish you were all here! ;-)
The weather is wonderful, with powerful, cool ocean breezes to offset the heat. I'm practicing my Spanish daily with the locals. And I expect to have a terrific tan once I get back. The only real problem here is that Cancun is just essentially a slice of corporate America set down whole and intact on the Yucatan peninsula. Although local Mexicans work in all of the establishments, it's difficult to get away from the American-style development and see some of the local culture. We're going to a Mexican restaurant tonight that my mother-in-law swears has "authentic" Mexican food, as opposed to food adapted to the American palate, but I'll reserve judgement untill after dinner.
My in-laws are wonderfully warm and generous, but OMG! are they right-wing! Many of you know that already, but it's tough coming into the our condo's common area every morning to see Fox Noise going full-blast. I've made a resolution to talk no politics as long as Mrs. Aristus and I are here. It'll be tough, because despite being a Republican, Mrs. Aristus is very interested in Barack Obama and wants to see how the campaign for the nomination is going. Me, I'd rather have bamboo slivers shoved under my nails than get involved in a political pissing contest with my father-in-law. So, for the next ten days or so, in answer to any political question posed by my f-i-l, I'll just answer, "I'm not really into politics". I'll probably get away with it as long as Mrs. Aristus doesn't roll her eyes in response. :-)
Anyway, take care, y'all! Love to everybody! :grouphug:
