So I Was Sitting In A Little Country Diner Last Night...
although it isn't in the country, I was listening to some of the conversation that was impossible to miss, about politics.

"I'm not gonna support Obama, America isn't ready for a black president"

"I'm not gonna support Hillary, America isn't ready for a woman president"

"I'm not gonna support McCain, he wants to stay in Iraq for 100 years"

I'm thinking who the hell are these people gonna support?

just food for thought

me

I'm voting for the Democratic candidate who appears on the ballot in November

It's not a primary OP because it is more of :wtf: kind of thing when people are so perplexed about who to vote for, and on DU in the primary forum, all that would happen is it would turn into a "Hillary caused the war" or an "Obama smokes" or something thread.

So, if people are so perplexed, and negative about candidates, will that change by election day do you think?

I'm a little worried... of course turnout is always what wins (that and hacked diebold tabulators or other brands)

:hi:

1. I'm a people watcher too
Depending on where I am the sentiments you made are generally somewhere.

Even among the more progressive, if they don't say it directly it is alluded to.

Sad, sad.

3. It appears that THEY aren't ready for a black or woman president
It's a shame they don't recognize that the prejudices are their own. :(

9. "They" would stay home?
Possibly. If they are obviously not ready for prime time with either Hillary or Barack, and they don't like McCain the only other choice they have is to sit this one out.

:-)

12. only thing is I'm not clear who they would support
if they are swing voters, and they are representative of a larger number (and I am not saying they are by any means this is a dirt low sample size and non-randomized) who will vote? only the party loyals?

13. It's obvious the GOP base
wants Huckabee. If they don't get him as VP, they've got no reason whatsoever to work for McCain since he doesn't care about their pet "values."

14. knowing Huckabuck from Arkansas
I also know that the GOP base here isn't a fan of him

he's not conservative enough (if you can imagine) for the Arkansas GOP base, but then, they would have us all reading the bible everyday and obeying all of the old testament (contradictory laws be damned)

Huckabuck, well he may have an appeal to the fundies nationwide, and he's playing to the right of where he governed, is the only one the fundies really have.

so you may be right

but a veep choice may be in the making for him.

10. Wow, sounds like they're going to be sitting it out
Maybe they would go third party, but I doubt they'd be able to find someone to fit their specifications. ("I'm not voting for (third party candidate) because he/she can't win anyway!")

At least their reason for not supporting McCain is a real reason; the ones for Obama and Clinton are weak. "The country" doesn't know if it's ready for a black or a woman president or not; that's up to the country's voters, including this person. As someone upthread said, it sounds like they are the one who isn't ready for a black or a woman for president.

Interestingly, I have a good friend who was planning to vote for Huckabee over anyone else if he got the nomination, but is planning to vote for Obama or Clinton over McCain. I wonder if there are that many voters out there like him? I'm betting there aren't that many, but you never know. For him, it's McCain's stance on Iraq that makes him intolerable. My friend is a fundamentalist Christian who agrees with the Repugs on social issues but with the Democrats on economic issues. Perhaps there will be a good number of hard-to-classify voters taking part this time around.

11. thats an interesting analysis, perhaps the PNAC has finally done itself in
and their takeover of the repukes has pissed off the fundies enough that they either will stay home or vote Dem

:D

15. I don't blame them for not liking their choices
Although I do think that the sexist and racist reasons for that are ingnorant. I'll leave it at that.
