Does anyone have any suggestions for a good value on a digital camera?
I'd just like one that takes decent, sharp pictures and that has a large view screen...and that doesn't break the bank.

Thanks for any suggestions! :hi:

10. I got a Nikon D40 for Christmas and it takes wonderful pictures.
Not professional quality, but still wonderful.

2. I just bought a Nikon Coolpix
It wasn't terribly expensive - I paid $180 for it. Very large view screen, and I'm happy with the picture quality.

6. I was desperate for a new camera.
We were about to take off on a family vacation, and my other digital camera was about 10 years old and very unwieldy. So I didn't do much comparison shopping - dh and I leafed through the Sunday circulars and we ended up getting it at - horrors of horrors- Best Buy.

I'd looked at Fry's in Wilsonville, but their selection is overwhelming to say the least. If I had time, I probably would've stopped at a Costco to see if they carried it (and probably do, and cheaper).

5. They last forever too.
Mine is almost six years old, and it still works perfectly. It's a bit bulkier than the new ones, and the battery door is a bit loose, but I can't see myself replacing it as long as it still works because it still takes lovely pictures.

7. Good to know.
I replaced a perfectly fine Nikon digital camera with the Coolpix, only because I was tired of lugging the other one around. It was far too big. However, we bought it about 10 years ago, and it still worked fine. Nikons seem to hold up well.

8. I like the Pentax Optio Waterproof ...
Edited on Sun Feb-17-08 03:55 PM by KC2
It's lasted longer than any camera I've ever had, in the elements, and you can buy one under $200.

Of course, it is no longer my favorite camera... now that I have a Canon EOS 40D. But I still carry the less expensive one (Pentax Optio) when I go places where I'd have to worry about the Canon being stolen or ruined by the rain! :hi:

11. I have a Canon Powershot A560.
I paid about 130$ for it at newegg. It should be cheaper now.

Here is a pic I took with it. http://www.flickr.com/photos/john_powell/1587376928/sizes/l/

And that is after flickr scaled down the pic.

15. Thanks. Looks good. Cheapo price, too.
It's funny. I thought that shot looked "Oregon-ish" (something about the light) and then I clicked on your profile.

14. i have a canon powershot s3 is, i ended up buying that because i also have
a canon rebel slr and it has been a great camera, so far i'm happy with the powershot but it did break once and i had the extended warranty so they fixed and it's working just fine. My first digital camera was a fuji finepix and it died after a year and half of service, i was very disappointed.

here is a pic of the canon, it is bigger than the point and shoot.
