This morning, I had a short seminar to attend at my alma-mater (LSU). I arrived early, so I thought I'd swing by the student union to see the improvements that have been made since I graduated (and this was WAY back in 1993, people!). So I walk in, expecting to see students mingling, groups of friends talking and laughing- just generally having a good time between or before classes. NOTHING of the sort was going on- It was like a tomb in there! Virtually everyone in the building (save for the ones working there) was plugged into an iPod or similar, hunkered over a laptop, in their own little world. The cafeteria and the games area was pretty much the same; little to no personal interaction (unless it was on Yahoo IM or somesuch).
I have to say that it was creepy feeling. Is this the way of the future? Technically proficient people that are completely and utterly unwilling or unable to interact with another live human?
That's it. I just had to get that off of my chest!
