Emails and PMs are severely limited.
Please, all of you, don't ever lose a friend over some things said in emails or PMs. It's so stupid. It's an absolutely awful medium for talking about stuff that matters. Don't even discuss such things that way. Talk on the phone instead. It's much better.

2. Yeah, it's hard to find a reliable psychic to use for your communications.
Oh wait... not that kind of medium. :P

3. Ah no...
I hate the phone. I'd rather just have to discuss things to death via txt. :)

But text on a screen, it's just like death.

7. Well... I don't have a phone phobia per se...
but I can't seem to feel comfortable talking to just about anyone except my sister. I still do though!

I hope my text to you is not like death.

9. Never.
But it's just, oh, sometimes emails and PMs make a situation far worse than it would be otherwise.

16. The phone can go die, I agree.
Semi-torture here for me. Written words are much preferable to spoken ones.

6. I'm somewhat phone phobic
Completely irrational, I know.

While I am willing to discuss things F2F, I often require writing out my thoughts to have a more complete view of them. I invariably end phone conversations with the V8 expression.

"D'Oh! I shoulda said.... "

:P

12. well they're not actually that limited
the person had to type the comment, proof read the comment, and "send" the comment

it's safe to say that they intended to make that comment, and you can take it a little more seriously than when just talking, because they had time to think about and phrase what they were saying rather than just blurting it out?

17. but everything people say on the phone is DEFINITELY not thought out
why would you send an email knowing it will live forever without some care? even if you do, you have to sort of assume that the other person actually invested time and typing and thus they feel more strongly than they do than when just blagging on the phone

no way a phone conversation is safer than an email for avoiding hurt feelings

19. But sometimes
it's hard to get across the true emotions of what you're trying to say without facial expressions, inflections, and body language. It's pretty risky when using email and message boards when discussing something serious. I've seen it cause problems many times. Hell, I think that could be half the problem in GD: P.

Something said in person could have a different reaction from someone if heard by phone or read by text.

21. It happens all the time
I have been getting some of the most cryptic emails at work recently. I have been having to call just to clarify what they meant.

Message boards are the same. I hope you can clear up whatever is going on.
