Indian Wedding - I've never seen anything more beautiful.
Edited on Mon Feb-18-08 11:02 PM by GirlinContempt
I know I shared a few pictures before, but I just got the CD from the photographers. If you're interested, I'd love to share it with you.
http://s259.photobucket.com/albums/hh290/girlincontempt/wedding/
There were around a thousand pictures. This is around 50.

Looking at these brought tears to my eyes. The way my sister and her husband looked at eachother, the joy on their faces, it's incredible. Nothing could have kept those two apart. Not cultural differences, family problems, religion issues, age difference, money, anything. They are so in love. It's amazing to see.

But, this means little to you as you don't know these people. However, the wedding was gorgeous. So much colour. The dance floor was PACKED the whole night. There were traditional dances, and then just partying. The ceremony was breathtaking. If nothing else, it's interesting for that.

Maybe it's just cause I'm a white girl and it's so new. But it was amazing, and I'm glad to share it, because it was the best wedding I've ever been to, the most beautiful, and the most... true?

And, here is a crappy picture of me in a sari looking like a whale in that giant thing, as requested:

Oh, just in case i run out of bandwidth on photobucket, the same pictures are on flickr:

5. Aww well, thank you
The sari made me feel HUGE because it was so much material wrapped all around... and I'm very top heavy, so it just sort of.,.. hung... and made me look, seriously, at LEAST 50 or 60 pounds heavier. AT LEAST.

4. The pics are gorgeous!! A Question
I am not familiar with Eastern wedding ceremonies. Was it a religious ceremony? I love the pics of their hands with the water pouring over them and am curious if there is a religious significance.

And, you're gorgeous, darlin'.

9. Yes, it was a Hindu ceremony
I'm not sure about what all of it means, it was an hour and a half to two hours long. That was a shortened version. This article has a lot of info about the different parts of the ceremony :) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hindu_wedding it was great

And, thank you :D

fat *ANYMORE*. But I really was. And I really don't like looking bigger than I am since I've tried so hard and gone through so much, medically and emotionally, to get to a normal weight. And, like most overweight/formerly overweight people, everyone overweight around me is amazingly gorgeous and I would never judge them EVER. Silly, isn't it?

That's a LOT of friggin people. This wedding was around 600, and that was tiny. They had trouble finding an indian hall that would accept so few people.

I don't think I *KNOW* 600 people, let alone 4,000!!

I love the pics of your sister and brother-in-law near the end... the ones right after the cute sticking out of the tongue! Gorgeous!

My sister married into a Vietnamese family a little over a year ago. I got to see a Vietnamese ceremony and experience some of that culture as well. It was also VERY colorful and very beautiful. Like your sister, mine met the man of her dreams and I couldn't be happier for them. They just had their first baby in December. :)

Thanks for sharing!

Not that I'd be willing to share with anyone.
Trust me. I looked HORRIBLE. The sari just sort of hung from my chest like a giant tent. There was so much fabric. It was gorgeous, but it made me look... not good. A lot of the indian guys seemed to like it though. However, I was told that culturally they prefer overweight women, so that wasn't reassuring.

everyone danced. I mean *EVERYONE* as SOON as the music started right till 2 or 3 am! It was NUTS!
Nuts in a good way. The music was FANTASTIC though. I'm using a lot of caps.

One of my other sisters organizes all the entertainment for Pride Toronto, so she knows a lot of musicians and DJs, and she got this incredible woman who mixes traditional indian music with western hip hop, dance, elvis, anything at all! It was so well done, you just couldn't prevent yourself from moving. Best wedding music ever.

It really was one of the most beautiful events I have ever attended. I also wore a Sari and stuck out like a sore thumb. But, not as much as my husband. He is very tall (6'7'') and towered over most of the other guests.

At one point, there was this big crisis, and I had to run out to a liquor store and a grocery store before the reception started. A white girl in full wedding sari regalia. MAN did I get stared at! It was funny :D

Neither were mine. Not because of the culture, but because of the cost of the wedding, to do it Indian style. It was a big mess. And totally ridiculous. But, it's over now, and everyone is happy.
