Hey lookit! I did something girly and creative and it came out okay!
So I bought this table and chair set over the weekend. They're almost new, in great shape, except for one thing: the chair covers look like the set was used as a prop on CSI.

So I got them home (a feat in itself- did you know that four chairs will fit in a station wagon and a fully assembled kitchen table will strap to the roof? Looks a bit like the Clampets are driving, but it works) and stared at them a few days, trying to figure out what I wanted to do, other than burn the current upholstery. Eventually, inspired by my beautiful red KitchenAid stand mixer :loveya: and the matching cookware set flvegan had to reorder for me because Amazon are incompetent douchebags (but that's another thread,) I figured I really wanted something red, and that I'd get extra material to carry that over into the living room. Not just red though- really red and flashy- I don't normally do daring stuff decor wise, and I kinda wanted to prove to myself that I could.

And I went out and found the perfect material for a song (I paid $10 and change for a bit over 5 yards.)

Here's the material. I don't know if you can see the little metal studs and rhinestone things on it very well, they're tiny and not big enough to be uncomfortable.

These are my new dining room chairs:

Now I just need to find a sofa, and the new place might look like somebody actually lives here, and not just like it has squatters.

3. Estate sale shop.
Of late all the furniture on CL 'round here seems to be either grossly overpriced or complete crap. Believe me I'm looking- my living room needs stuff bad.

5. I hear ya!
I think CL goes in waves.

I will find a slew of great things in a short period of time, then it will dry up for awhile.

2. My dear LeftyMom!
Wow, that is one beautiful fabric!

The chair just looks fantastic!

Isn't it amazing how new fabric can make furniture look brand new?

Good for you!

4. Isn't it great?
Joann was clearing it out for $2/yd, plus I got a bit off of that for buying the rest of the bolt.

So the whole dining room set, figuring in the cost of the table and chairs, the fabric, and the box of staples for my staple gun, set me back a whopping $59. And I'll have fabric left over to make some couch cushions to draw the dining room and living room together visually.

7. You did good, LeftyMom....
...I like the chairs. BTW, just because you redid the cushions, doesn't make you "girly". But, it does mean you are a slave to fashion! ;-)

10. For a few months now. The new place is adorable.
Pretty good neighborhood, plenty of room, LK has his own room, my room is huge, I have a nice kitchen, and I'm not paying much at all (at least by California standards.) The only thing I'm not wild about is that it's only got one bathroom.

20. Congrats on the new place
I understand your pain about the one bathroom. We only have one bathroom, and it's downstairs. We hate having to go downstairs to the cold, haunted part of the house in the middle of the night.

14. You ever see a response and know without looking who it's from?
I almost bought you one of those at Goodwill this weekend. But somebody else wanted it. To use. I'm not naming any names, but if you spell it backward it's moM. :eyes:

the red and black floral looks really cool with the black paint on the chair. Much better than the old cushion.
