8. I was just guessing really. I took some German, but I never got very far.
Now if I'd taken Spanish in high school, I'd be fluent by now... :(

9. I took two years...and that was just two years ago.
:( I'm kind of pathetic.

The ironic thing is, I'm taking Arabic now and I think that is actually helping me with my German. I know, the two languages are not even remotely similar, but when I'm studying my brain goes into "foreign language mode" and German is my most proficient one. (When I started taking German freshman year of college, I would do the same thing with French, which I took in high school.) It's kind of interesting, I think. :hi:

12. Holy Crap-- Arabic...
I studied some Hebrew in college and it was weird enough, but Arabic looked downright scribblish!

Ma' alsalam. :hi:

19. Yeah, I'm thinking I probably should've started it right after I finished German
so I could get up to the 200 level before graduating, but a friend of mine (who is in a 300 level course now) tells me it wouldn't make much difference, lol. :hi: It's interesting, and pretty cool...but definitely not easy.

29. It takes a MINIMUM of two years
of INTENSIVE study - with classes, language lab and chatting with friends for practise to get really proficient at Arabic.

I was studying it so that I could read the Quran and Hadith (since any translation is not the "real" Quran or Hadith) for my Religious Anthropology... when 9/11 happened. Our class got death and bomb threats (apparently some dip shits thought we MUST be terrists) so I quit that and did a "memory whipe".

Good luck and hang in there!

wundert is definitely present tense

wunderte would be past tense.

20. "Do you like what you doth see...?" said the voluptuous elf-maiden
as she provocatively parted the folds of her robe to reveal the rounded, shadowy glories within.

(German is a very dense language, you see)

28. Sarah wonders to herself: what IS up with the relationship/dealings between us two (familiar)
Would be my not so elegant or concise answer...

I'm horrid at "running translations" or concise ones, as I wanna pack the underlying meaning in with the literal on the surface translation... and in German, that can make for some really long translations :silly:
