My first new family photo scan - My father.
This is my father.

This is a man who fought against fascism and Nazism and earned the Purple Heart for his efforts. This is a man who fought to raise a family of five children in a house that was designed for none. This is a man who never took a step back in his life. He was a soldier's soldier- he was an enlisted radioman who received a field promotion to Warrant Officer for his contributions to our nation. This is a man who never stopped thinking and doing, and who remained active even after a stroke crippled his leg. This is a man who loved to laugh, and never keep it to himself. He was a writer and a poet. He was an electronics expert- he could toss a handful of components into the air and they would land on the table a working ham radio he could talk around the world on. This is a man who could design and build anything from a sign to a second story patio on stilts.

This is a man who is now spinning in his grave because one George W. Bush pissed on all he fought for and destroyed everything he gave to America.

This is my father.

Note: The flaws in this picture are due to it having been glued incorrectly to a cardboard backing- it wrinkled and I was unable to correct that. I hope it doesn't detract from it.

1. My dear Prisoner_Number_Six...
What a beautiful tribute to your father...

What you have here is prose poetry...

Thank you for this...

And no, the wrinkles do not detract from the beauty of the picture...

It is stunning!

I salute your father for his service...

And for giving us you...

4. I contemplated posting this in GD.
But screw 'em. I chose here instead.

As for me being given over to this fine group of people, well... I think I'll not comment on that- too many ways to get myself into trouble going for the cheap laugh...

5. I played around with it in Photoshop
If there's a more appropriate program or a more effective technique I hope you let me in on it- I'm starting a scanning/restoration service and such a thing would come in handy.

10. Where did you get the photo?
Edited on Thu Feb-21-08 01:18 AM by Imagine In Texas
It looks a bit manipulated already. The picture has a definate texture added to it. If I had the original, I could probably take out the wrinkles and crinkles.

I use Paint shop Pro. It is an equally usable and a more affordable alternative to Adobe Photoshop.

11. The pic was found by me in an old family photo album
Whoever put it together wanted to make sure the pictures never fell out.

I played around with it in Photoshop, and added the canvas texture there. It covered up a sin or two. Still, it's not a BAD effort, but I'll no doubt do it again before I'm done.

No, the effort was wonderful
I just missed the fact that it was manipulated already and it confused me.

I think I am about ready to purchase photoshop, but I am so accustomed to Paint Shop Pro, and it does almost everything I need to do, I am not sure.

How terrific someone took the effort to preserve those photos for you!!

7. Glad you enjoyed it.
I actually had many issues with him over my lifetime, but all that's as faded and as dead as an old photograph. (Pun intended.) Time to move on.
