Yup. If ever there were a sure sign that I'm in the midst of a full-blown political cycle, it's having to hunt down my reading glasses.

Eye strain.

:eyes:

They're http://www.rreyewear.com/bellagio/bellagio-b323-b358.html">Bellagios. B-335s. Ovalish with interesting angles. Very slim profile. Easy to give a "drop dead, I know when my deadline is" look to - well, anyone nervous that I'm not going to make a writing deadline. I don't miss writing deadlines. Ever. Well, not the drop-dead deadlines, anyway.

The doctor said I had eye strain. Had to have glasses. Nothing wrong with my eyesight, which is still better than 20/20. Just eye strain. Common, apparently, for people like me.

OK. So, in for a penny, in for a pound. I took my time and selected ones that said, "I read and write so much, that I have to have eyeglasses for it. It's a serious condition. Take it seriously. If I have these glasses on, you give me a 'worried about the deadline' look at your utmost peril."

At least, that's what they say to others. I hope.

For me, they remind me of the http://www.bellagio.com/">Bellagio in Vegas. Patrick and I have fun there.

They remind me of http://www.bellagio.it/">Bellagio in Italy. We will have fun there. This year. I swear it's on the agenda, Patrick.

Right after Obama wins the General.

- Dave

P.S. If I ever have http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=105&topic_id=7424957&mesg_id=7424957">lunch with Rachel Maddow or Jodi Foster, I am so wearing these glasses.

1. have some tea and sympathy?

I've been wearing glasses since the 6th grade. First pair, mom picked out (I hated them): baby blue cat's eye style.. WHAT THE HELL WAS SHE THINKING????? :puke:

ennywho -- readying glasses? phhhhtttt... put on a pair progressive TRI-FOCALS with refracting prism thingy. Thank the goddess for lightweight plastic lenses, or they'd be as thick as coke-bottle bottoms. the refracting prism thingy is for a "shift" or drift I have in one eye - when I'm tired, one eye tends to shift/drift around...

Contacts you say? Other than the cost for the "daily use" ones, still would need regular pair of glasses and I'm also prone to "PINK EYE" - so not a good candidate for contacts

Laser? Prices around here run in the range of $700-$1,000 per eye, don't have that kind of loose change in my pocket and would most likely still need glasses..

What I need are a pair of longer arms...

I just looked up to my muted TV, and the http://www.perfectpushup.com/">Perfect Push-up infomercial is on.

I looked up, to TiVo to the Family Guy episode. The one with $12 Lasik offered.

Thank you, for that. Quite sincerely. Serendipity rocks.

Sorry about the glasses thingie, tho.

3. it amuses me a bit when we go to a restaurant
Joy puts her reading glasses on to read the menu

I take mine off so I can read the menu... arms are too short if I have my glasses on, but then with them off, I have to have my nose just about touching the menu to see it...

I was a sight to see back in the 6th grade, also had buck teeth (could eat an apple through a picket fence), with full set of railroad track braces on them complete with rubber bands, and a "page boy" haircut...

4. Stop!

I would've been your friend.

Never know when you might need to retrieve something from the other side of a picket fence, after all.

7. OK. Hands down. Your 'your momma dresses you funny' stories...
... win.

The worst I can claim are: (1) the sweater vest war of 2nd grade; and (2) the conveniently-"lost" yellow ducky rain slicker (I kept it tho, coz I liked the latches; just wouldn't wear it).

Do you watch Ugly Betty?!!?

I've been wearing a pair of reading glasses over a pair of bifocals. My cats are scared.

10. I'd chase 'em.
With treats in one hand, and the flashlight in the other, to shine the beam on the wall.

Pure kitty sensory overload.

11. those are cool specs....
The day is coming when I'll need reading glasses- Dad had to get them in his early 40's and I'm following his pattern.

I wonder if I could get a monocle instead? I think the monocle is THE under-used accessory of all time.

13. Cool specs, but what do they have to do with lesbians?
That last part confused me.
