Frat's Motel Pledge Event Turns Berserk

What began as a dream pledge party turned into a nightmare for fraternity pledges and for the University of Colorado at Boulder when nine prospective brothers were arrested this weekend after police said they drunkenly ransacked a pair of motel rooms.

Police said the fraternity brothers-in-training responded to the get-to-know assignment with reckless zeal, leaving a scene that included one large hole in a wall and several smaller holes scattered around the rooms. Ceiling fans and heating units had been ripped from walls; shower curtains and rods had been torn down; one mirror was covered with wads of spit and another was shattered, according to police, who added that blood and vomit were splattered all over the place.

Am I crazy, or is a get-to-know assignment involving blood, vomit, and spit-covered mirrors a sure sign that I DON'T want to know these asshats?

I live in a Southern college town with a huge Greek system complete with huge Antebellum sorority and fraternity houses. As bad as the frat guys can be here, I don't think any of them are as stupid as these guys.

in the front yard of their frat house on Milledge Avenue. They have old South parties and all of their sorority dates wear Scarlett O'Hara gowns.

DEKALB, Ill. — Stephen Kazmierczak, the gunman who shot and killed five Northern Illinois University students Thursday, had recently stopped taking medication and "had become somewhat erratic in the last couple of weeks," Northern Illinois University Police Chief Donald Grady said at a news conference Friday.

Grady said Kazmierczak, who shot himself after the rampage, left no note and did not speak to students in the lecture hall. He said no motive has been determined.

"There were no red flags," Grady said. Kazmierczak, he said, was an "outstanding student" when he attended the university in the spring of 2007 and was "revered by the faculty, staff and students alike."

"everyone (sic) in colorado (sic) already despises us, is it your attempt to have the entire nation despise us?" he wrote. "we are intelligent, bright, and caring people who made an extremely stupid, unintelligent, and disrespectful mistake that doesn't reflect who we are, but that doesn't seem to matter to anybody."

One of our guys got shot in the butt (.22, small caliber, luckily) when the motel owner caught him in bed with his wife.

We had rented the entire motel (a small one) for Spring Break in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

Good ol' Delta Kappa Epsilon (both Bushes are frat brothers :-(), U. of Alabama.
Class of '63.

And the only drug we had available was alcohol.
That was another time and another life.
It seemed like a really big deal back then, to belong to a fraternity.
I can't say that it ever got me a leg up in later life.
Now it all seems kind of silly to me.

You may be encouraged to know that guys can outgrow that stuff and go on to be good husbands and fathers and live fairly productive lives.

But I know the Lambda Chi's FINALLY got the funds to renovate their house while I was in school- and they promptly set it on fire and burned it to the ground. :eyes:
