I'm moving again - sometime in April
Edited on Thu Feb-21-08 10:24 PM by lizziegrace
I hate the thought. I spend $200/month for fuel for my car and my old farmhouse is heated with oil. $3.31/gallon right now and I can blow through over 100 gallons a month. Since my thermostat hasn't been above 50 since the first of November, I still have 1/4 tank of oil left.

I found a condo to rent. It's 4 years old, all appliances stay, $50 less a month than I'm paying now. It's in a huge (HUGE) development of condos in an area that used to be farmland. :-( The savings will be significant and that's what's important right now, I guess.

I'm going to miss my house, the trees, the yard, my gardens and the charm and character of this old place.

:(

I'm so tired of moving.

1. We do what we must.
It isn't always pleasant. I'm sorry you have to move. But, keep the payoff in mind. One day, you'll get back to where you want to be. Keep that goal in front of you and you'll make it happen.

3. If I were in the area...
I recommend hiring DUers for moving. One set of DUers helped me move out of my apartment. Another couple helped me move into my house. Cost me one Tex-Mex meal and some pizzas. :D

7. Thanks D. :-)
I will pack everything myself and hire movers to haul the furniture. This old house has a nasty turn at the top of the stairs. The new place is essentially a 3 story. The movers are gonna hate that...

4. I had to move 3 times in 4 years...
Edited on Thu Feb-21-08 10:31 PM by Amerigo Vespucci
...I know it doesn't help your immediate situation, but sometimes a "we're all in this together" moment can't hurt.

1). 2003: Apartment complex is sold and converted to condos. Forced to move. Find a beautiful townhome in Campbell, CA.

2). One year after moving in, my landlord's failed love life makes her decide to move back in. I'm out. Find a nice townhome in San Jose, CA.

3). Two and a half years later, savvy landlord smells the downturn in housing and sells the townhome out from under me. Move to a cool old 3-bedroom house in Santa Clara, CA.

So all I can do is give you a hug:

:grouphug:

And tell you "This too shall pass."

:toast:

6. Thanks...

I've lived in 11 states and this will make address number 25. Since my divorce 6 years ago, I've accepted the fact that I will probably never have a home again (in the traditional sense).

Oh, and the condo is 1/3 mile from the offices we're moving to in April. Wear and tear on my car will diminish significantly. (I drive 50 miles a day to get to work and back.)

It's for a year, until Lelapin finishes college. Then I suppose I could move anywhere I want. Have no idea where that would be though.

9. I'm sorry lizzie grace
moving sucks

I will be doing it again sometime myself. Where I'll move is going to be around here, but I dunno if it will be a house or an apartment. All depends on a lot of things right now.

I know you are tired, hang in there friend

11. My dear lizziegrace...
Funny thing...

I was just thinking about you today, and wondering about your move...

And here you are, in your thread...

I know you'll miss the farmhouse...

And all the great memories...

The condo sounds really good, however!

Just consider what you can do with the money you'll be saving...

Big hugs to you and lelapin...

I really hope this will be the last move for a very long, long time!

the owner is putting it on the market to sell in the next 18-24 months. But Lelapin will be done with college and I can move anywhere I want I guess..

14. I'm sorry. It sounds like a "wise move" though!
My sister is in the same situation as you - her small house in northeastern Ohio runs on heating oil and costs $300 to fill the tank, which she can go through in a month. She has to commute a long way. Her appliances and hot water heater are old and unreliable. She loves her house but the situation adds a lot of stress to her life.

I just moved from an apartment into a larger condo, and even in this condo my heating bill went up significantly. Now is the time to hunker down in small living spaces close to work.

I have a cold water heater, but that's just me.

I haven't had a home in a long, long time. This old house felt like one. The trees, the horse in the pasture, the hardwood floors, arched doorways and the trains. I will miss the trains...

23. I truly feel for you lizziegrace
I'm packing and moving in two weeks from a big house to a small condo. I too am shortening my commute, thus saving on gas and wear and tear on my car.

Although I love my house, I am embracing this move with much happiness. I'll be 1.3 miles from work and plan on walking and/or biking to work!

I would help you pack and move if I'd live closer. The physical packing and moving part sucks, but then you've been through it enough times - I'm preaching to the choir.

Sending strength and support and of course hugs to get you through this transition.

The dumpster is being dropped today so I can really get rid of all the "stuff" I didn't think I could live without. What can be donated will, what can be sold will be sold. The rest is going into the dumpster.

Good luck with your move too!

26. Moving stinks...

But once you're settled in, just think, you'll actually be WARM all winter (and not spending your whole paycheck on oil!). Your health will benefit. And the shorter commute will be great too.

I'm sorry though. I think your house is terrific and i completely understand why it'll be hard to leave.

31. Just remember, they have to take care of the snow...
And with all the savings in rent, wear and tear on the car, and gas you can come visit us in Michigan or we can take our New Jersey diner trip.

Although I sympathize with leaving the yard and garden. I know I'd miss mine if I moved to a condo.

32. Sounds like a plan

I can bring some plants with me (they're all perennials) and make the enclosed patio look like a small english garden.

The garage will hold both cars, there's a gas fireplace in the finished basement and all the 4 year old appliances stay. I've never had a refrigerator with an ice maker before...

:)
