Well, the student loan vampires hav e come for me.
Starting next month, they'll be sucking my blood to the tune of 163 bones a month.

Geeze, I hope I have a job by then.

1. It is easy to have them wait for a payment..
Just give them a call and they will waive the payments for a few more months. With the bank I used for my loans I didn't have to even talk to anyone. It was all automated and over the phone.

"Press 2 if you are unable to make your payment this month."

6. How long ago was that?
When they came after me they gave me a huge stack of forms to fill out, and for some ungodly reason they wanted the SAME information from my roommate. WTF?

And they only gave it to me 2 weeks before the deadline to turn it in. So needless to say, I ended up having to pay right then.

10. If only it had been that easy for me.
When I took a semester off school, and then didn't come back with more than 6 credit hours they started harassing me about paying back the loan. I told them to send me the paperwork to get it delayed however... deferred, whatever it was. I don't know the details. All I know is I requested that they send me the paperwork.

A month later they start calling me again. I tell them I never got the paperwork. They stop calling.

A month later, same thing.

A month later, same thing.

A month later, same thing. This time when I tell the guy I never got the paperwork, he looks at my file and says, "Huh. I see four requests for the paperwork here. But no sign that it's actually been sent any one of those times."

So yeah, I finally got the paperwork a few days before classes started the next semester, when I was doing part-time so I didn't have to pay back the student loan then.

So a year or two later when I finally stopped taking classes for good the same cycle started again. And I finally got the paperwork two weeks before the deadline. It would have been highly unlikely for me to get all that information just for myself by the deadline... but then they were asking for the same information from my roommate. And there was just no way I could get all of that in time. That was a bit WTF moment for me. He wasn't my husband, he was my roommate. He paid half the bills. That's all they needed to fucking know. But no, they wanted his tax information, his income information, his life fucking history, and he wasn't even the one who owed them money. I didn't even ask him for his information, I just said fuck it. I didn't even want to have to wade through that bullshit, I wasn't gonna ask him to do it too.

2. I was able to defer mine online.
I guess it would depend on who your loan is through. It was easy to do and gave a list of qualifying reasons for deferment.

3. Such vampires, making you pay back a loan :p
Good luck finding a job, I'll be in the same boat come December (though without too much loan money, as I worked a co-op job last semester).

What's your degree in?

7. Should be at least a few jobs out there in that field
I'm in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Our job market isn't doing too badly, especially for US citizens.
