Oscar Predictions?
Here are mine...have not seen ANY of the nominated films.

Picture: No Country for Old Men

Director: Coen Brothers

Actor: Daniel Day Lewis

Actress: Julie Christie...Marion Cotillard is a close second and might pull an upset

Supporting Actor: Javier Bardem

Supporting Actress: Hardest to pick, but I'm leaning towards Ruby Dee, especially if Julie Christie doesn't win because the Academy has to give one sentimental, almost lifetime achievement award.

Agree? Disagree? Dont' give a shit?

7. I used to care more, but these days I don't know the actors, and with the strike, and the
forecast for rain.... meh. :P

12. It did sort of catch up with us because of the strike...
...usually I find myself rooting AGAINST someone these days...this year I'm not, which probably means I don't care either!

6. Only 10?
I hate to say it, but I'll be watching what people are wearing, especially since I don't think the actual awards will be all that suspenseful! :hi:

8. My Picks:
Picture: No Country for Old men

Director: Coen Borthers For No Country

Best Actor Daniel Day Lewis for There Will be Blood.

Best Actress: Ellen Page

Supporting Actor: Javier Bardam

Supporting Actress: Ruby Dee

Best Screenplay: Juno

Adapted Screenplay: No Country for Old Men

Animated Feature: Rattatouille (Persepolis should win, however Best Animated Feature has a history of fucking the better films over such as Cars, Triplets of Belleville, and Howl's Moving Castle. Besides, they always pick the flashy CGI movies over traditional Animation)

Cinematography: There Will Be Blood

Best Art Direction: Sweeney Todd

Best Costume: Sweeny Todd

Documentary Feature: This is too close to call. I think it will either be Sicko or Taxi to the Dark Side. Roght now, I'm leaning more towards Taxi.

Documentary Short: Freeheld

Film Editing: There Will Be Blood

Makeup: Pirates of the Carribean

Score: Ratatouille

Song: Happy Working Song from Enchanted

Animated Short: Peter and the Wolf

Live action Short: The Mozart of Pickpockets

Sound Mixing: Transformers

Visual Effects: Pirates of the Carribean

Foriegn Language Film: The Counterfeiters

10. What should scare us all
Norbit is up for Best Makeup.

The world will come to an end if Norbit wins an Academy Award for ANYTHING!

13. Academy voters may be dumb...
...but they're not stupid...still, just the nomination itself is scary.

18. I don't know, jmowreader.
Consider this: Red Buttons and Eminem have won Oscars, but Ian McKellen and Ian Holm haven't.

Mel Gibson, Kevin Costner, and Warren Beatty have won Best Director, but Alfred Hitchcock, Ernst Lubitsch, Howard Hawks, Robert Altman, and Sidney Lumet haven't. What weird parallel universe do we live in here?

There's a nice long list of film greats, including Satyajit Ray, Barbara Stanyck, Deborah Kerr, and Peter O'Toole, who have gotten lifetime achievement Oscars but never took home the statuette in competition.
