NOT a "one hit wonder" thing...this might be ONE song by a band or performer with an ass-load of gold records, and for whatever reason, they're just not your cup of tea.

But there's the matter of that ONE LITTLE EARWORM that crept into your brain. Maybe you were lucky and bought the song for 99 cents on iTunes. Maybe you blew 20 bucks on the CD and realized you were NEVER gonna like ANYTHING BUT that ONE song.

Let's hear it. I'm all ears.

2. "Take It To The Limit" by the Eagles
I absolutely detest everything else by the Eagles, but that song is sublimely beautiful. Everything is perfect.
One of my ten favorite records.

Huey Lewis And The News. I absolutely deplore them.

BUT

they've recorded two songs that are just stellar.

(1) A cover of "It's All Right" by Curtis Mayfield And The Impressions (a capella)

and

(2) "Let Her Go And Start Over"

There. I said it, and I'm glad.

18. My one HL&TN song is...
...Jacob's Ladder.

I even bought the Bruce Hornsby original out of guilt, thinking that I "should" like Hornsby's version better, but I think it's Huey's single greatest performance, period. I do like their version of "It's Alright," but found 95% of the band's output...especially the played-to-death MTV stuff...to be a gi-normous pain in the wazoo.

I actually got to a point in life where I could say "All I want from tomorrow is to get it better than today." I've got "Jacob's Ladder" on one of my favorite mix CDs, which also includes songs from John Mellencamp's "Scarecrow," Eric Clapton's version of "Love Minus Zero No Limit" from the Bob Dylan Tribute Concert, and Johnny Cash's version of Soundgarden's "Rusty Cage."

6. "Brian Wilson" by Bare Naked Ladies
This song is a good one; most of the rest of their stuff is pure shit - especially "If I had a Million Dollars." Their geeky, annoying personas plus the fact they were jammed down our collective throats by a Boston radio station for several years made me despise this band. Except for the aforementioned song, of course.

You know the one. The 80's version. When I bought the LP I thought I would like the rest of Soft Cell's music. Was I wrong!

How could such a sucky band come up with such a damned good song?

Though I don't dislike them per se, just not all that into any of their other music.

Also: "November Rain" by Guns 'n Roses. Most epic power ballad ever.

17. I had an ex-girlfriend...
...who would get into a fight with me if we listened to anything but Barry Manilow (yes, it's a L-O-N-G story)...

So I remember "Looks Like We Made It," "Weekend In New England," "Daybreak," "Can't Smile Without You," "Somewhere In The Night," "Ready To Take A Chance Again," "Mandy," and "Copacabana" as the soundtrack to one of the most intense, off-the-wall, angst-ridden years of my life.

Those songs still haunt me, years later.

22. I recently got exposed to that douche by a bigger douche

...the song "I Love This Bar...it really has the spirit of a typical Sammy Hagar song but it just sounded a little more moronic, and I looked at the credits and voila...written by Toby.

I can't imagine people buying entire Toby Keith albums and listening to them and saying things like "You know, I really liked his LAST album, but on the NEW one he's really outdone himself!"

for Toby than it was for Sammy...Sammy did a cover of it just to be funny.
Toby had a top 10 country chart hit with that about two and a half years ago.

I loathe Hall and Oats, but the man can actually sing, given music-oriented material.

35. "Some Things Are Better Left Unsaid" from "Big Bam Boom"
I have Fripp's "Exposure," as well as Hall's "Sacred Songs" (also including Fripp), but my favorite Hall vocal is on "Some Things Are Better Left Unsaid." I'm a sucker for that heavily phase-shifted guitar and Hall's "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO..." right before the final section. It's tougher than the average Hall & Oates song, not their typical "Philly / Blue Eyed Soul" offering. The video was pretty cool...close-ups of the guitar strings shimmering as G.E. Smith hit them and such.

I thought that "Big Bam Boom" was pretty much the last gasp of Hall & Oates as artists who mattered.
