Damn Lucy-fer, she is a difficult dog.

I had her spayed, let her out without her e-collar (lampshade) and she opened up her stitches (chewed her wound, scared the hell out of me). I had her patched up and she is fine so far.
I vowed I would keep her e-collar on until she had her stitches out. She has gone through three e-collars in the past four days. She had one for a grand total of an hour before it was worthless. She just destroyed her last one this evening & I am going to have to keep an eye on her all night until I can buy her a muzzle.
It almost seems as if she is trying to make things difficult.

1. i laugh when i see that look on her face.
like people -- some dogs are stubborn.

try to remember -- she's daddy's little girl -- and she doesn't understand everything that is happening to her and needs you for everything.

she's a beauty, though --

2. You have to wonder what the dog is thinking. ... "will this be permanent/am I being punished?".

9. I take them off when I can watch her.
I think she knows it isn't permanent.

3. Put a t-shirt on her.
Tie it up in a knot over her back. For some reason, the t-shirt combined with a collar works better than the collar alone.

4. Imagine what she is saying about YOU! "My mom keeps putting that
ridiculous plastic around my head even though I have told her time and again that I hate it! I've even chewed up a few just to try and get my point across and she just gets another one and sticks it around me head! :wtf:

I swear being a dog is harder now than it used to be. I miss the good old days." :(

:spray:

BTW - I saw at the pet shop yesterday ones made of a blow up pillow type thing. They look much more comfortable.

5. Geez, she looks like one of my dogs.
Is Lucy a lab-pit mix, too? She's got a big ol' cow nose like my boy.

7. I am not sure what kind of mix she is but your guess sounds about right.
She was sitting in my dog house when I arrived home one evening. She is really a sweet pup, just stubborn.

10. Orsino, do you have a picture of your guy?
I am kind of curious what he looks like.

This is a picture I took the night she showed up. Who could even THINK about taking her to the pound? She just walked right up to the house & let us (me, my five other dogs & two cats) know she wanted to live with us.

12. Looks as though this is the best I can do.
A moody shot of the full-grown Obie. He has the wide pit muzzle and cow nose, with little pit ears and piggy eyes, but otherwise just looks like a smallish (50 lbs.) black lab. He even has a white blaze on his chest.

14. I hope she is as good a dog as Obie is!
Right now she is being stubborn. I've had her for about four months now & she is almost ready to be in the house unsupervised (she has learned to hold waste & not to chew on things unless I encourage it).

15. Don't let it fret you.
It's not possible to be as good a dog as Obie is. :D

His disposition is pure lab. He wore his e-collar without complaint, having been spayed at the same time his leg was rebuilt after he got hisself runned over. He shies away from fights, and though he is rambunctious, doesn't seem to have a mean bone in his body.

Best wishes for your little demon! You've made me realize that I am sorely lacking in the doggie picture department.

8. Yes she is.
I live 20 miles from the nearest pet store that sells e-collars. I bought the last one from the vet (about 8 miles away) and she destroyed it within an hour. I think the muzzle will get her through the rest of her recovery. She doesn't understand global warming & high gas prices. I put the muzzle on when she goes outside & the e-collar I bought today when I have to go to work. I was able to find a muzzle at the farmers co-op nearby.

11. trash can
had the same problem with my old dog many years ago... finally bought a soft plastic trash can, small-medium size. cut a hole in the bottom, popped some holes in the sides and tied it to her collar. trimmed down the "length" so she could still eat/drink

she couldn't chew it, nor pull it off.. cheaper than buying new collars every other day

13. I've been there.
My dog didn't destroy his when he was neutered but it was pretty much pointless because his nose/nozzle is so long and he's a dachshund. He could still get to his stitches. He generally ignored his stitches when he was out but I was afraid he's mess with them in his kennel at night so I resorted to putting a diaper on him. Haha!

17. She might have been.
I am not falling for it again though. That's how she got me to let her outside without it the first time she tried to rip her own guts out. Once bitten, twice shy. She was making a big deal about her muzzle this morning when I put it on for the first time. I would rather she cry than bleed. I will make it up to her, I swear! I have some smoked pigs ears & knuckles she will enjoy.
