Just finished watching the Barbara Walters special. She just interviewed Harrison Ford. Wonderfully illuminating.

242. Buzzard, I'm sorry she didn't win. She was spectacular in that role.
"Juno" is a fantastic movie. I guess it was too lighthearted for this somber year, although it treated a difficult subject with a light touch. Charming!

Peace, love and happiness,

Radio Lady (Film reviewer in Portland, Oregon)

22. I'm going to respectfully disagree on Rebecca Miller
I like the dress. It's a little eccentric. But at least she's not playing if safe and boring. Too many of the ladies are overly styled and it shows. Tilda Swinton looks great. So does Cate Blanchett. Of course.

Wow, Tom Wilkinson, Phillip Seymour Hoffman etc. I plan on watching "The Assasination of Jesse James" tonight, Casey Affleck is a talented guy, obviously overlooked by his more famous brother, but still he's always been very talented.

Same here, Bardem is the only performance I've watched, but he was so awesome in that, tough to see anybody ever topping that. Just the perfect guy for the perfect role.

He created such a creepy, unnerving character that felt totally unique. I still need to read the book someday soon. Philip Seymour Hoffman was great in "Charlie Wilson's War," though I didn't care much for the movie.

43. yes the book is awesome
A fast read, sparse, almost like a screenplay itself. I swear when I was reading it, I said to myself: "This would be perfect for the Coen Brothers to adapt." Then I looked it up, because I wanted to see if anybody was doing it, because I would have loved to adapt it, then sure enough, the Coens beat me to it. :)

264. If only the actresses would
realize they are actresses and not society matrons at the opera, maybe the Academy Awards wouldn't be so boring. Imagine if Swinton had worn what she's wearing here. Maybe every nominated actor needs to come as their character. Of course, no one would want to get anywhere near Bardiem. That was one scary villian.

260. I was surprised but glad! She was wonderful in Clayton.
Hers is a great talent. She was so totally into her character in that movie, she talked about it on GMA today, how her clothes never quite fit and were too tight and she had fat around her bra line in back. Of course, she looked totally skinny last night.

That said, I'm ticked that Enchanted got 3 song nominations, and Rob Thomas' "Little Wonders" (from "Meet the Robinsons") didn't even get a sniff at a nomination.

I haven't decided whether I like it or not - I think I do like it. Have they done the part where they recognize actors and actresses lost in the last year? I figured that might be a bit moving with Heath Ledger's unexpected death.

119. and for nerds like me: Christopher Rouse a much deserved editing win
Paul Greengrass is an awesome director, he shoots his films handheld in an induced documentary style. Very gritty work, but tough work for an editor. The Bourne Ultimatum was edited to perfection. Fantastic job by Rouse. Awesome work. He's consistently great in his collaborations with Greengrass, like for United 93 and The Bourne Supremacy.

DDL has a center part and hair in chunks that looked like they were chopped off around his ears. Yucko. And the earrings don't do a thing for him.
And he's a handsome fellow.

I think he should wear the long rock star hair he had in Last of the Mohicans, personally.

239. it's a perfectly done film
Adapted from a great novel. You couldn't ask for anything better. Great material from a great writer, two filmmakers at the height of their powers, and and extraordinary cast. The film is just like the book. Stark. Sparse. McCarthy wrote the book almost as sparse as a screenplay. The Coens play it well, no score, the sound is crisp and natural, cinematography beautiful, but still gritty. Javier Bardem plays an all-time great bad guy. It's not something that you could watch a million times over and over, or, at least not everybody would want to, but it's fantastic. A thought provoking film.

248. Well, I guess we're in the minority, but we found that movie very distasteful.
Overblown. Unmotivated. Hard to understand. Little or no story arc. Ending was superficial and unbelievable. Don't know about the book but we went to see it based on the "Charlie Rose" interview with the two directors.

But whatever. I liked Fargo very much and that's how I will probably remember them.

Have a good week, everybody!

He is notoriously reclusive, and not at all Hollywood.

I heard Ridley Scott is going to make Blood Meridian. Now that could be freaking epic.

240. I'm kinda hoping that doesn't happen
That's one of those books where a lot of what is great about it would be really hard to adapt to film, plus a lot of the violence is really gruesome and extreme (are they really going to show a tree of dead babies?)

Plus, I think Scott is really hit-or-miss, with most of the hits early in his career.

I think they should just leave a film treatment on ice, until they can figure out a way to ressurect Sam Peckinpah.

I wanna see Jim Jarmusch do Outer Dark.

238. Congrats to the Coens!
They've deserved it for a long time, and it's great that they won it for a really strong movie instead of it just being their turn (like Marty last year).

249. We were uber-happy that Day-Lewis picked up Best Actor for: There Will Be Blood...
And: Robert Elswit, cinematography - same film. Not jive Oscars, but big stuff. Disappointed Blood didn't receive, or wasn't nominated for other achievements but hey! That's Hollywood!!

258. Was the music playing during the "In Memoriam" part from Braveheart?
Because it sounds a lot like the "Wallace Courts Murron" segment.
