Smokers who live with non-smokers.....
Do you smoke in the house?

I have repeatedly asked Mr MB to smoke outside, but he somehow believes "outside" means in a lazyboy in the basement :banghead::nuke::banghead:

I got home from a 10 hour day to a smelly kitchen because he had just had a cocktail and a smoke after spending the day working from home and taking care of Little MB who was sick.....tough day :sarcasm: He woke up at 9 and just cleaned his office. She spent the day on the couch.

Okay, so I am bitter but c'mon! I have repeatedly asked him to smoke outside and all I get is a DH who smokes in the basement and tells me "It will go away"

:nuke::nuke::nuke:

1. We came to an agreement before I moved in
So yes, I smoke in the house.

Of course quitting is on the agenda but I haven't picked a date yet.

2. We used to smoke in the garage
in our old house (when I smoked too) and when we moved here, the agreement was no smoking in the new house at all.

He is a California boy and has found that he can't "enjoy" his smoke when it is so cold outside (we live in upstate NY) so he independantly decided to make a smoking lounge downstairs :puke:

This was not the agreement - AND - he was supposed to quit with me almost a year ago and recently informed me that there is no way he is quitting in 2008 either.... :banghead:

3. No.
It was a deal we made when we bought our first place a few years ago. I go downstairs to the front courtyard. I also don't smoke as much as I used to when I worked nights. I'm down to about 5 smokes a day.

I'll admit, though, to being weak sometimes when he travels for work, especially when it has been cold outside. But I hold my hand out the window and try to blow as much smoke as possible outside.

You sound really frustrated. I'd say, "pick your battles", but I can see how this would be one of them. Good luck.

6. I am really frustrated.
The fact that he did not quit doesn't bother me other than the fact that he is smoking in the house when we agreed that would not happen - and it's not like you blowing it out the window....

He is sitting in an easy chair in the basement smoking 3 and 4 at a time with his morning coffee or evening cocktail!

Thanks for the hug - I really do need it

4. When I lived inside the house I didn't smoke.
I live in a RV in the backyard now. I smoke inside now that I am the only one living in here (the RV). But I go out to the street if I smoke outside now because one of the people that live in the house is bothered even by a small amount coming in through a window.

8. I assume your weather is cooperative to
practice outdoor smoking year-round.

I grew up in this area and hid my smoking until I was well out of college, so I suppose I was just used to smoking outside.

Next year will be one year since I quit after 25 years of smoking. The smell of it really bothers me and sets off my asthma. I just don't get why he won't suck it up!

9. Yeah, I gotta give you that.
I live in South Florida. If I lived someplace that had seasons that ranged from something other than "really, really nice" to "hot, sticky and humid," I might have to consider smoking indoors.

12. Same here.
Nor do we smoke in cars or in public enclosures where smoking is allowed. We don't like inflicting our habit on non-smokers.

11. Yuck. I feel for you.
Neither one of us smokes, but I am so incredibly sensitive to the smell, it blocks me up instantly. I don't know how I'd live with someone who smoked in the house.

My mom smoked in the house and I don't recall it bothering me when I was growing up. Once I moved out, whoo boy. I can smell smoke at 50 yards. It's weird.
