He's a "Practicing Clinical Psychologist"

He has conducted individual psychotherpay and group therapy with thousands of clients with stress-related problems including: panic, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem lack of assertiveness, communication skills, etc. He is fully trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, a cutting-edge comprehensive psychoeducation based treatment for individuals with severe mental illness. He has developed group therapy curriculums for a variety of diagnoses and settings. He specializes in trauma, empowerment, and mindfulness-based treatments.

That woman (my 2nd grade teacher) was a cruel, spirit-busting crone. How ironic that someone that induced so much anxiety, depression and low self-esteem onto children would raise someone who would devote their life to treating people with those very same conditions.

1. Somehow I doubt that irony is to blame here.

The more likely culprit is a simple chain reaction.

2. not a coincidence, I would wager
I'm sure she was no piece of cake to live with and her son found his niche in treating the problems he had to deal with. I'm sorry you had such an awful teacher when you were that little. (Or ever!)

Thanks. She was horrible.
There was a lot of shit happening at home at the time too, which didn't help. That was an awful year all around.

3. Same here
I spent some time in group therapy for a while and it surprised me how may counseling professionals got into because they needed help themselves.

4. My third grade teacher was a horrible person.
She got away with murder basically because she kinda looked like Grace Kelly.

5. Third and second
grade were bad for me. Both teachers were hateful and mean spirited. I would lay awake at night dreading going to school and had nightmares when I did get to sleep. And one of them was a nun. Go figure.

6. The poor guy probably went through so much therapy
he decided to just take it up for a living! Good for him!

8. Most child abuse survivors go into the helping professions...
... Police, Fire, EMTs, Doctors, Nurses, Counselors, Social Workers, and yes... Chaplains.

For many victims, it helps to know that at least you can use your experiences and past to help people... especially if when you needed help, no one was there.

Too bad your teacher followed the path of abuse instead of the path of healing.

:grouphug: A big hug for all the survivors out there! :grouphug:
