Okay, so now I've been diagnosed with osteopenia.
http://www.fore.org/patients/osteo_and_osteo.html?gclid=COaT1M2u45ECFQhdgQodcEUyXA

Lucky me- now I have TWO forms of arthritis to worry about! Not to mention that my lowest lumbar disc is narrowing (which explains the lower backaches I keep getting).

At least my hip seems to be normal- for now...

Some advice from experience- whatever you do, STAY YOUNG. The minute you open your eyes and discover you've let middle age hit you like a blackjack on the back of the head, you're screwn.

So just fucking STAY YOUNG.

7. I'm already on high powered arthritis medication
I go to the clinic every 6 weeks for my Remicade I.V. infusion. That's some kick-ass stuff.

This new development isn't exactly a surprise- everyone in my family has at least one form of arthritis- I'm certain it's a hereditary thing. And since there ain't exactly a cure for any of it, we all just deal with it and don't let it get us down.

It hit me early- I had to have my first total knee replacement when I was just 42. Just call me "experienced".

3. I hear you on the need to stay young.
Watching my parents struggle with the kinds of issues they are dealing with now that they are both 60 is really frightening.

6. Sorry for your news.... :(
Here's some info I found on osteopenia:

Osteopenia just means that you have low bone density, and there are things that can be done about that! Talk to your doctor - and if they won't talk to you, find one who will. Don't settle for someone who won't educate you about your own health. That's unacceptable in my book.

11. I know it's no joking matter
Please understand I'm not mocking you or anything but I've always thought that "osteopenia" sounded like a condition for which one might use Viagra. I go in for my first DEXA scan tomorrow actually.

12. Getting older isn't any fun, but it beats the shit out of the ONLY alternative,
which is to die young.

15. I'm an awful human being,
because "osteopenia" sounded dirty to me. Deepest apologies! I've been in the Lounge too long.

Seriously, I'm sorry this is happening to you. Arthritis of any kind can be devastating. I hope you find the support you need.
