Anybody have a Tempur-Pedic bed? Or slept on one?
We're looking at new beds. Our current one is horrible, and I'm OVER having an aching back every morning.

We tried a Tempur-Pedic in the store tonight. It felt nice, but I'm skeptical about the foam thing.

Any experience? Like it? Hate it?

1. I think Redstone might have one...
We have a knock off of the Select Comfort Sleep Number bed. We love it.

2. I was thinking about a Sleep Number, I'd heard good things.
But we stayed at my sister's a few months back, and she has one. That thing MURDERED my back, no matter what I set it on. I was disappointed.

I know every person's back is quite different. What's heaven for one person can be hell for another. I like the contouring that the Tempur-Pedic did, but I want to know how they last long-term.

3. There is a bit of a "learning curve" with the sleep number bed.
I think it took me about a week to get used to it.

Depending upon how my back and arthritis are doing I still have to adjust up and down (I am not one set number...)

4. Yeah, we were there for about a week. And I could find no
setting that worked for me.

Now, I'm picky and have a horrible back.

But my wife couldn't get a comfortable setting, either.

I just don't think it would work for us.

5. What size was it?
We have a king, but I have slept at my parents on the queen sized sleep number, and I could not get the queen to a good setting (10 days there). I slept better on the futon in their den.

36. There are 6 different models of Sleep Number Beds...each feels different.
I have the middle model, The Model 5000, which has two inches of pillowtop to provide the cushion I need for my arthritic hips. Other models run from very firm to very cushy.
My number is 45 which is perfect, although sometimes I like to make it a tad softer or firmer depending on my mood. I love it!

You really need to visit a store to check them out to see which one works for you.

I would bet Tempurpedic has the same situation.

6. I have a "Rhapsody" Tempur-pedic
It's the firmer one. It doesn't make anything hurt worse. My husband adores it. It's a lot easier to move around on than I thought it'd be.

11. I'm not sure if that's the one we tried tonight or not.
It felt pretty good, but I only tried it for 5 minutes.

I've been reading reviews online, and everyone says you need to lie on it for 15-20 minutes.

I guess I need to go back and try it longer.

8. Bought one; gave up.
I loved it in the store, but after the purchase we were immediately shunted off to a "fulfillment center" for delivery. Turned out they only deliver on one Saturday a month, and it's always a four-hour window. They absolutely refused to pick a time and stick to it.

When I canceled the order a month later, they whined a lot and accused me of "not working with" them. So, fuck 'em.

I suspect that if you were available on a date convenient to them, you'd actually love the product.

9. I have a 4 inch mattress topper made out of memory foam.
I got it to help my saggy mattress before I could get another one.

The memory foam holds your body heat. Many people say it gets uncomfortable. It does help on top of a regular mattress, but I have not slept on a full Tempur pedic mattress.

13. ME ME ME!
I LOVE it! I used it on a platform bed. I had a horrible bed before and this is just heaven.

I got it on EBAY for a lot less but it was a knock off of the way too expensive tempererpedic. But I can't tell the difference and this one has natural latex in it to help it stay cool - one of the problems with these beds.

If you want PM me and I'll look for the seller. There are only 2 and I chose the one after studding the different mattresses. I really like the natural latex part.

16. I used a Tempurpedic foam overlay - gave up on it
I didn't help my back. I went to a (famous in Massachusetts) furniture store which specializes in beds (Jordans), where they have 'sleep specialists' in white coats(!). Picked out a softer mattress with a nice pillow topping and have had great sleep ever since.

DH and I stayed at a bed and breakfast the had those mattresses and bragged about them in their brochure. Both of us had horrible backaches from the experience.

19. Go air, instead.
I found a discount air bed like the Sleep Number, but a lot cheaper.
Bought it online. Delivered from CA.
We have king with 2 pumps, each side adjustable.
Nice quilted top, looks like a regular mattress.
I'll never have anything else.

And you can make it rock hard (snicker) or cloud soft, or anywhere in between.
Can't understand why it wouldn't work for you.

20. bought ours here - couldn't be happier
http://www.my-rest.com/items~cname~Memory+Foam+Mattresses~cc~memfoambeds.htm

We bought the "Milano". When shopping for a memory foam mattress knowing the amount of actual memory foam is important (2", 3", or 4") and the density of the foam (3.5 lb, 4.0lb, 5.3lb.) The higher the density the firmer the mattress, and the longer it will last.

Our mattress arrived in 6 days, most are made to order.

They delivered it the next day and we had 90 days to decide if we liked it or not. Took me some getting used to, but Loved One adored it right away.

30. Also, about memory foam
Edited on Wed Feb-27-08 08:02 PM by Saint Etienne17
If you do feel uncomfortable on it because it gets hot (memory foam does not breath at all), just get a cotton mattress pad, or better yet or a feather or fiberbed, and that should help a lot.

Edit: meant this post to be a response to OP, but I am too lazy to delete and make a new post :P

21. I bought the foam topper at Bed, Bath and Beyond
and it is really good for RA. It's actually on my daughter's bed but I sneak a nap in there just about every day and it's the best rest I get.

22. We have the Tempur-Pedic
Sure it's expensive but hubby and I were tired of all the back pain. The only thing you should look out for is when you get the new bedding it's hard. At least to me, it takes the bed a few weeks to get use to your body and then learns how to give you the support where you need it. If you can handle that for a few weeks, hard not uncomfortable then you will love it. We have the mattress about 15 months now and I'm happy we bought her. I'm sure it will last us another 10 plus years. Good luck and let me know if you like it.

I love it! Regular mattresses give me terrible back aches. We take the Tempur-Pedic pillows with us on trips as well - so much better then regular pillows.

29. I wish I could get one
The problem is that I have a cheap Cal King bed and the King and Cal King Tempur-pedics areeffing pricey , but my current mattress is pretty unmemorable, although I hooked it up with an AWESOME featherbed with a layer of down on top, and it has helped a ton.

I think I'm going to get a memory foam topper soon (I work at a store with 'em and I suspect a line of our memory foam toppers will be put on clearance in the next couple of months) and put it under the featherbed.

Also I have a Tempur-pedic neck pillow, and it is the best pillow I have ever owned. I take it with me if I have to spend the night at another house. The ONLY thing I do not like about the pillow is that if I have to sleep on a hard, hard mattress or a floor, the pillow is usually too short for my neck, but that's probably because the length between the tip of my shoulder to my spine is longer than for most other people.

My mom also has the same pillow, and she's never slept better. I wish she'd spend some money on a new foam mattress or air bed since she does have some arthritis in some joints, but she is tight with her money, although she makes a lot more than she spends on her necessities (mortgage, 2 cars, and food).

we were visiting friends and they had one in their guest room...it was originally in their room but my friend's husband was allergic to something in the mattress...I still CRAVE that night's sleep I got. It was unbelievable. We've never been able to afford one before, but let me tell you when this bed wears out it's getting replaced with a tempurpedic.

35. I have a memory foam mattress topper
and I love it.

It is warm, and maybe not the greatest thing in the middle of the summer but it provides release for my back. I don't like firm mattresses at all. They give me a backache. I have "flatback" due to scoliosis surgery as a teen, so I need something that will give around my back, rather than making my back do something it doesn't do.

37. We have a spring matterss with built-in memory foam top. I like, hubby thinks
it's only so-so and preferred it when it was brand-new and the foam was still fluffy. We may eventually in a few years get an auxiliary foam top when this one deflates all the way down.
