Quitting my job: is this a realistic scenario?
Since I don't have a job lined up yet in Montreal, I'd like to hang on to this one for a while if at all possible, and since I'm an IT project manager, the gig lends itself very well to extreme telecommuting. My boss' boss thinks telecommuting is unholy and should be restricted to employees who (almost literally) don't mind being under video surveillance so he can make sure they're not fucking off or doing laundry.

I'm thinking about bringing the subject up to my boss by asking if he's open to extreme telecommuting; I figure the worst he can say is no. Then I can slide my resignation letter across the table and ask for my 2 weeks' vacation before my last day.

I can't stand that place, but I know I could deal with it if I worked remote for a while. I've gotten a number of very good bites for jobs up there, and once I'm actually there, things should pick up. My boss and I get along pretty well, although I don't trust him further than I can throw him across the room. His second in command is a bully with a tendency towards knee-jerk reactions.

Also factored in, the fact that others in my group, some higher in the food chain than I, will give me excellent recommendations, so I don't have to count on one from my boss, although it would be nice to have one. See above paragraph re: issues of trust, though.

Thoughts, ideas, suggestions?

1. Is there a waiting period
before accepting a job up there? IOW, you have to establish a residency for a period of time first.

2. I'm a Canadian citizen
If someone made me an offer, I could accept it at once and start whenever. Forgot to mention that part, oops.
