The Movie "Once" and "Falling Slowly"
I never heard of this movie, and I grabbed it this week at the video store, and just fell in love with it, the movie, the music, and Marketa Irglova.

1. Couldn't agree more. We'd been meaning to see it for quite a while, finally rented
it about a month ago. It's such a brilliant gem of a movie. So simple, so quiet, so lovely. I had chills the entire time they were in the music store singing Falling Slowly. I was thrilled beyond measure that they won the Oscar.

2. Brilliant movie.....totally moving on many levels...
Even aside from the romantic plot line there is so much I love about the movie. It perfectly captures the creative process....the feeling of joy in collaboration.....the feeling of a band coming together....of someone getting a shot at a second chance even though they are perceived as being past their prime. And it's all done without any pat resolution. We don't know if he "makes it". We don't know if they ever get together. We don't know anything other than they've all (him, her, the band, the producer, his father, her family) shared the power of a moment.

The scene of them performing "When Your Minds Made Up" in the studio is just such a tear inducing moment of inspiration for me.

3. I also loved that his dad totally supported him. It would've been so easy for the dad
to be a gruff, conservative guy telling his son to quit dreaming and get a job. But he so sweetly and so sincerely (yet believably) supported and loved his son. That was another part I loved.

6. performing "When Your Minds Made Up" in the studio
Yes, I loved the way the jaded engineer blew them off and then as he listened to the song he knew it was a special moment.
