4. The only difference being Walter was awesome.

One of my faves, and not just for his comedy roles. The Taking of Pelham 123, and of course, Failsafe, were both awesome. Add his comedic talents to that and we have a winnah!

6. Failsafe is frightening.

And features both Henry Fonda and a very young Larry Hagman. Chilling movie based on a chilling book.

A technical malfunction in the Pentagon's strategic control system causes an erroneous order to be sent to a B-58 squadron on a routine training mission instructing the bombers to fly beyond their fail safe distance. At this point the flight crew are trained to cease communications and prepare to fulfill their objective by bombing Moscow. As the planes near their target, the crisis deepens and together the Americans and Soviets decide on a final, desperate solution.

it's not a feel good movie, and sadly, it's still all too relevant. Can't recommend it enough. The ending will give you goosebumps.

The Taking Of Pelham 123 is about a subway hijacking. Also very, very good.

7. The Taking of Pelham 123, I thought that was a movie only I knew about
glad to know someone else has seen it! The robbers were so hapless in that film, it is almost comical to watch it now

10. My dad liked it a lot, and I watched it with him when I was a kid.
I've loved it ever since.

The 70's had so many classics that a movie like this gets forgotten...but it shouldn't be. It was a good one.

13. Have you ever seen "The Conversation"? with Gene Hackman
and a young ( and I mean young ) Harrison Ford? Ford played a real slimeball, and Hackman was an ex- CIA operative in communications or something along those lines...great movie

Yeah, lots of movies in the 70's ( and 80's, for that matter ) that are constantly overlooked

15. Oh yeah, many times. A true classic.
I can think of a million 70's movies. The Godfather, The French Connection (more Hackman!), The 7-Ups, The Friends Of Eddie Coyle (Robert Mitchum is beyond cool), Taxi Driver... the list goes on.

18. Christ...I feel like I should know you
Robert Mitchum is one of ( if not ) my favorite actors of all time. A true bad-ass, you did NOT mess with this guy even on your best day; if you did, you had a real death wish.

Taxi Driver: I identified with the character of Travis Bickle (sp)

French Connection was fantastic, but I must say I was never a fan of the Godfather movies...they just never did it for me. There is something about the whole mafia family storyline there that I find somewhat depressing. It's probably why I never watched the Sopranos ( it seems like more of the same...shoot this guy, kill that guy ).

What was the 7-Ups?

19. We are alike!
I love Robert Mitchum! And frighteningly I also identify with Travis Bickle (remember Peter Boyle in that?).

The 7-Ups was another excellent Roy Scheider movie (you cannot go wrong with Roy), featuring one of the better car chases in movie history, about a secret NY detective force.

The seven-ups are a secret, elite New York detective squad who are very effective in catching criminals, even if their tactics are questionable. However, what one of the detectives doesn't know is that one of his informants is mastermind of a plot to kidnap loan sharks. The kidnappers get to their victims by impersonating police officers. While investigating one of the disappearances, one of the seven-ups gets spotted and is killed. The situation puts the seven-ups in a precarious position because it looks like they are tied to the kidnappings. So now one detective has to find the murderers and clear the seven-ups' soiled reputation.

14. I think it's NOT on DVD yet?...
...but a friend from L.A. told me that "Varrick" and "Pelham" are playing at a theater there this weekend on the big screen. What a great Walter double-feature!
