Hummers! (dial-up beware)
Edited on Sat Mar-01-08 10:09 AM by Maestro
And not the gas guzzling type! :) I can't remember if I have posted these here. I know that the photography has seen these, but I am not sure about the Lounge. If you have seen them, I'm sorry for the repeat. If not, enjoy.

These ruby throated hummingbirds were all shot in my backyard either in spring or late summer.

And we will end with a feeder shot. I hope you enjoyed these pics as much as I did taking them. I'd like to work on getting a nice set-up for them this spring.

1. they're incredible!
Your picks are always amazing. These little guys are beautiful, it must take a lot of patience to get such clear shots of them.
I'm gonna try again this year to get some hummers' attention with my feeders.

6. Thanks again stuntcat
As far as patience, well, I suppose it takes a tad, but I really just turn on my ninja mode and sneak up on them. ;) A long lens and a lot of cropping helps too. :)

and ends up taking up half the branch?

Oh wait... wrong kind of hummer. :P

10. Actually, these little guys are quite mean
to each other and if one tried tried to butt in on another one's branch, there'd be some fighing. So one hummer taking up an entire branch is nothing new. :)

4. I was promised porn, and all I got were these lousy birds
:(

But seriously, sweet pics. I love hummingbirds, and since I rarely see them, I get pretty excited when I do.

8. We get so many hummers at our cabin
Sometimes it's like a swarm! My favorite hummer is the Rufous, he comes late in the season and he's very mean to the other hummers. He also tries to keep them from using the feeders.

17. I would like to find more, but where I am I only have two
varieties, the ruby throated and the black chinned. The latter is only an occasional visitor though. I am bit too far east.

I have read about some techniques to help me stop the motion even better combining my flash, shutter speed and aperture so I hope to get some better one this year. Thanks again.

12. Awesome pictures!
You really need to send them into Birds and Blooms magazine. They run a pictorial on hummingbirds every issue and I am sure yours would be in it!

http://www.birdsandblooms.com/ check it out.

13. Hummingbirds are neat
I got literally buzzed by one on my mother's porch one day..I thought it was a bee and swatted at it...nope..It was literally less than a foot from my face....I must have startled it off the nearby flower....:)

21. They certainly are neat little creatures.
They will buzz around and do not seem overly concerned about humans as long as there is nectar nearby. It probably came so close to you because you are just so sweet. ;)

15. Amazing photos....
Pretty birds.

I think many things in nature have an iridescent quality...maybe, even
humans have an iridescence about themselves at certain times....but, maybe
we haven't reached a high enough level of consciousness to see it.

26. I can think of a few people that have that
iridescent quality whether it's visible to the naked eye or not. :) Thanks for looking and commenting.

that iridescence occurs. Thanks for looking.
