Best beer you have ever had (mine was situational, and oh so good)?

I had just flown a Lockheed SP-2E Neptune from Cam Ranh Bay, Viet Nam, to Subic Bay, Philippine Islands, complete with a canopy hatch blowing open in a line of thunderstorms I had to penetrate. When we got to the Cubi Point Naval Air Station BOQ (Bachelor Officers Quarters) we went down to the basement bar .. still in our grimy combat flight suits .. and had the most deliciously cold San Miguel beers and hot popcorn that a body could stand. Again .. my best tasting beer ever, but under highly subjective circumstances.

1. I can't really remember, to tell you the truth - but
a good cold Negro Modelo or Dos Equis hits the spot on a hot day.

And I do realize I may be considered a weenie for saying this, but a friend of mine who is diabetic yet refuses to give up alcohol was told by his doctor that if he was going to insist on drinking beer, he should give Michelob Ultra a try. This friend served the Lime Cactus Ultra with shrimp and lobster the other day when we were at his house and it was really, really good.

2. Toss-up between the first beer I had after getting back from the Gulf,
Edited on Sun Mar-02-08 08:56 PM by Aristus
(and my duty station was Germany, so you know I was coming home to some good beer!), and a non-situational occasion; A red (not amber) beer brewed by a microbrewery in California that also owns its own pizza parlor. I forget the name both of the beer and the restaurant, but the beer is named after one of the Old Testament prophets.

The near-beer we got in the Gulf was unaffectionately nicknamed "camel piss"...for good reason.

On edit: Hi Mac! :hi:

4. Well, I'll get out my Bible and Google by chapter. The Gideons would not be amused.
Aristus! How are you?

8. I'm fine, thanks, Mac. Good to see you.
I don't know how the Gideons would feel about that, but I'm reminded of Paul's first letter to Timothy, where Paul reminds him to take a little wine with his dinner to aid his digestion. I'm not Paul's biggest fan in the world, but it was a lovely, very human thing to say and do. :-)

10. Biblically, I'm partial to ACTS 9:5 (KJV) where Jesus says ..
It is hard to kick against the pricks .."

11. I need to re-read the KJV (he mutters)...
I've got the Revised Standard Version here, and Acts 9:5 is "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting."

These modern translations just take all the fun out of Scripture. B-)

5. After that flight
I reckon a cold beer was in order.

Best I had was Alaska Ale, served to my wife and I in Juneau, AK last year. Subjective circumstance for us as well; 25th wedding anniversary. At that moment I felt I was exactly where I wanted to be, with the right company to share it.

6. A tough call..
Either any of the many home-brewed ales I've had at SCA events, or the English Ale from the Bors Hede Medieval Restaurant in Carnation, Washington.

7. It was an unnamed ale a friend of mine brewed while I was in college.
My favorite commercial beers are: Negro Modelo, Guinness, and Newcastle brown ale.

9. Korean Budweiser.
I don't know what they put in it to make it so good, and I don't want to know. For a year, though, I subsisted on it.

I tried a beer brewed in Vermont, called Long Trail. GREAT BEER! Then someone bought me a six-pack of Spaten Octoberfest, which was equally as awesome. I haven't tried their equal since, and I still can tell you which one I think is better.
