1. Twice. In 1967 and 68.

On my way to and from the Tongkin Gulf, complements of the US Navy.

The roads were not paved then, as I recall.

What a place .. Olongapo. Olongapo defies description. What happened in Olongapo always stayed in Olongapo. Who on earth would ever have sent a postcard home from Olongapo? To mom & dad? To your girlfriend? Not me!

I thought Tijuana was amazing. But Olongapo blew it away. No postcards home from either place.

I always loved it when the Coral Sea was on YS. Quick response to Route Pack - 1 & 2 and even into Steel Tiger/Barrel Roll. I realize those were not Navy target areas, but when the going got rough ..
