Poll question: Do you allow your pet on the bed while you sleep?
Just curious, I want to know how odd I am.

1. On the bed? Try under the covers.
I have one on the bed all the time. Couple days a week, I have another that wants under the covers.

But then, I AM odd.

3. Of course!
Normally all 3 cats have full run of the apartment (with the exception of my roommate's room) and they usually choose to sleep on my bed. Right now, I've got a cat with special dietary needs, so I keep her in my room at night while the other two stay in a different room. She always sleeps on the bed.

I've never understood people who don't allow their animals on their beds. :wtf:

Both of my cats grab on to a limb, be it an arm, leg or foot & sort of "hug" it. My guess is they like the added warmth. It's like wearing a pur-sock!

16. When I was married, the Golden Retriever was notorious for climbing in between us.
Especially if there was a thunderstorm, the big wussy was like a toddler: every time the lightning flashed and the thunder rumbled, he'd shake and wimper and burrow deeper under the covers.

Now, I've always let my dogs sleep with me, because they're basically wolves, who sleep in packs in the wild. It seems unnatural to force them to sleep separately, like it's a punishment. But as for cats: I never had a cat till 6 years ago, when I brought the Bombay home from the shelter. I just figured she'd want nothing to do with me unless it was feeding time, so imagine my shock when she insisted on cuddling up every night! And yes, she has to get up in your face, pushing you off the pillow unless you wanna breathe in fur all night. The purring is nice, but the biting and clawing when she wants attention gets annoying sometimes!

Anyway, bottom line: animals love to sleep with you--and don't dump half as much crap on you as significant others!

Ha! She started yelping at 1:30 AM at 2:00 AM she was fast asleep between the two of us. We always had to help her on the bed. When we would make love she would put her front paws on the bed (and later on her adopted brother Beau, the Golden did the same thing" as if to say, "What game is that, can I play?".

Yes, all my animals sleep with me, including a future male human animal. :-)

26. yes
When I'm where the dog lives, the dog sleeps in the bed with us. However, we didn't let her sleep with us for the first several months - letting a dog sleep on the bed right away can make them think they're dominant. She would also get up and tear things apart when she was a puppy if not locked up.

When I had a cat (I miss my cat), he would sleep with me a lot, but he'd often wake me up to be let out, which was kind of a pain, so I'd try to have him out of the room when I went to bed, but he was so cute, it was hard to say no.

27. They allow me
a smidgen of space in which I get to sleep. Wherever I am, they have to snuggle up as tight as they possibly can. One sleeps curled up against my back and the other sleeps either by my head or curled up totally under the covers behind my knees. Allow -- sheesh, the 2 little ones have their own steps up to the bed!

Add me to the odd list.

30. One dog
sleeps stretched out in the dead center of the bed. By morning he has pushed me to the very edge of the mattress. Pretty good for a 15 pound dog. This dog has to be awakened every morning and ordered out of bed and outside.

The other dog is an odd character. He likes to roam the house at night. And he fancies himself a 17 pound guard dog. He will bark at the moon on moonlit nights. He barks at the neighbors cars as they come and go. In order for the rest of us to sleep he is confined in the bedroom. He gets in the bed when we go to bed. He doesn't stay long. Usually the last thing I am aware of at night is him getting out of bed. He has a dog bed that he sometimes sleeps in. More often he sleeps on the bathroom tile - or on the carpet between me and the door - no doubt standing guard. I'm sure he still hears most of the noises because I do. But he doesn't bark when he is confined at night. He gets up on the bed again in the morning when he thinks it is time to get up. And he expects you to get up within a reasonable amount of time thereafter. If not he will get two inches from your eyes and stare. Or he will position himself as a very uncomfortable lump in the bed. Finally, he will scratch and paw usually between the shoulder blades - but sometimes at the head. Works every time.

If I kick them out of the room, they cry. And they usually sleep pretty well.

I had to buy an automatic feeder for the weekends though. I was pretty sick of having to get up and feed them at dawn (especially now that it is getting lighter sooner).

but when I was dogsitting for my parents I let them. Only because I felt bad about leaving them locked up when I was at work. :P Normally they're locked up at night when people are asleep. But I worked the night shift, so they were locked up at night... and then a few hours later I'd go to bed. I didn't want to lock them up again.

The little rat terrier sleeps with her legs straight out digging into Mr MB - she will not allow anyone else to be near me. The cat sleeps on Mr MB's feet - the cat likes him more :P

Golden retriever, springer spaniel, and cat, plus two humans in a queen-size bed.

Our dogs had slept on the floor until about a year-and-a-half ago when our old golden died. Because the springer had always slept cuddled next to him, and because we needed her presence as we mourned, we brought her into the bed with us because we were all lonely without old Dylan. Then we got a golden pup several months later, and we tried to get him to sleep on the floor, but he would join us in the middle of the night. Plus, it's damn cold in Maine in the winter. Both of the dogs will switch to the floor if so inclined.

The cat has always slept with me, and Mr. Laurel just had to learn to deal.

We're moving in a few weeks and will be upgrading to a king-size.

One borzoi sleeps by my side of the bed and another by Zoiguy's. They nap on the bed
during the day. And always remake it. No cats at the moment. Don't trust the zois with them.

She usually takes over my pillow, the boy cat sleeps down the bed, and the younger female sleeps in the laundry basket at the end of the bed (she's taken it over).

I bought some "steps" so he could get up on the bed he's not supposed to be on! He's old, and that makes me love him even more, so he gets his way most of the time.

53. Cats yes, dogs no. Except when my partner is traveling, or if I'm napping.
The three of us are too big for one queen size bed, and I'm too light a sleeper.

But if I were single I'd let the dog share the bed.

54. i outlawed it for a several years.
i had a waterbed for a while that dog claws put pinholes in. the 3 dogs i have now have just recently were allowed on the bed. i have one little dog that sleeps under the covers at my feet. the other 2 figure that if hubby is not there they are entitled to take the other half of the bed.
the dogs really kept my company when i was kinda bedridden for a couple months.
mostly, tho, they sleep on the dog couch.

61. as many have stated...
allow is such a funny word.

when it was just my dogs, the only one that ventured into my bed was my jrt who hated the cold. i felt bad for that, especially when he would lick my nose to gain access under the covers on a really cold night. ok, i allowed.

and then i rescued two kitties over like six months...

the second one was the coolest. sleeping by my head in her bed that she lovingly shared.

but the first, the male, always chose to sleep at my feet. in his bed that he loudly complained about anytime i would shift my position.

neither ever took a crap on my pillow or anything, but have you ever awoken with a kitty sleeping on top of your head? because he's mad?

allow? yeah, i allow.

I really don't have a choice in the matter. I have one that sleeps on top of the covers by my feet, and another that sleeps under the covers snuggled up to my left side. They're weird...and so am I, I guess. :)

when I moved into this current apartment, one of the cats decided that they were upset about the move, so it started peeing on my bed. brand new mattress and brand new bedspread. I tried everything to get it to stop, seems the only thing that worked was shutting them out of my room.

Which ever one it was doesn't pee anywhere else in the house (it uses the litterbox)... except sometimes if you leave clothing on the floor.... which of course, I don't do.

So, since I'm here, I voted & just have to tell you ALL what a pleasure trip this thread was! Thank you for giving an interesting read away from the DUP brawls! Loving the pictures too.

I lost my two furbaby kitties last year for different medical reasons. Can't hardly sleep these days because they're not sleeping cuddled with me. One slept between my legs (so hard to turn or move at night for fear of interrupting her sleep, cries in the night = guilttrip!). The other dear furbaby slept in my left armpit - only the LEFT armpit, she wasn't doing no Right armpit ever! Under the covers if it was cold, top of the covers if it was warm weather.

Dealing with mold abatement issues, so I can't get another kitty for a while. Staples sticking out of the torn up kitchen floor, just not doable until I can get the place fixed, which should take a few more months. Staples could hurt furry paws. Country style kitchen with no doors, I couldn't keep them out. So, it has been pure pleasure tonite reading about all your beloved critters!! Thanks, much appreciated!

whether it's our room, the spare room or the couch the little bastard's right there. He never sleeps with my wife (don't blame him) but it does make for some very uncomfortable nights. Plus he has to get up in the middle of the night to get a drink and then when he decides to come back he has to wake me up just to let him back into bed.

Actually, StirFry comes to get me every night around bed time. We snuggle for a few minutes and then we zonk.

If it's cold he tries to wriggle under the covers with me at night. Sometimes when I have trouble sleeping, stroking him 'til he purrs is a good way to send me nodding off.

102. The real question is, do they allow me on the bed while they sleep.?
The answer in either case is yes. In my case it's three cats, one of the boys sleeps on the spare pillow, another by my feet, and the third nuzzled next to me, often draped over my arm. What's nice is that they trade places, so it's not always the same cat in each place.

My lint brush gets a good workout every other day.

has been having some night time accidents for some reason. Don't know why she stopped waking me up to go out, but she's back to sleeping in a closed crate at night. It's in my bedroom, so if she makes noises about going out I'll hear her right away. So, we're all in my bedroom, but only the cats are on the bed. At least for now.
