9. Insect ambivalence
Some insects I encourage. Part of my garden is a butterfly garden, so the black swallowtails get the parsley. How much parley can a couple of people eat anyway?

I could do without the underground critters who basically finish off the plants. (I realize not all of these are insects.)

10. I planted tulips once.
A friend gave me some. But I found out that tulips don't do well in South Carolina. One recommendation I have seen is to dig them up, freeze them for the winter, and then replant them. I haven't tried this; it seems like entirely too much work. I would rather plant something that grows well on its own, such as azaleas. I try to grow native plants, but some others get a pass.

12. I love azaleas too. Though I've only ever seen them inside, never in a garden.
Too cold up here in Canada.
