Green tea in standard grocery-store tea bags tastes like shit
Anyone know where I could find some loose green tea that tastes good? It is supposed to be so good for you, but I can't stand the taste of the grocery store stuff. I'd like to try some *real* loose tea - anyone have any suggestions where I might find some? Online?

1. Does your grocery store have a natural foods section?
That's where I get loose tea.

6. *sigh*
no. And the Earth Fare in Asheville has a lot of loose tea, but no loose green tea. I was shocked, I tell you. Shocked!

2. My local Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf...
Edited on Tue Mar-04-08 05:42 PM by Kutjara
...sells a few really nice loose green teas (and the same varieties in bags). I particularly like their Jasmine Dragon Pheonix Pearl (although I do feel a bit of a tit asking for it by name in the shop). If you have a branch of CB&TL near you, I can recommend it.

9. yeah, yeah, Rub it in - I used to live in Westwood,
and go by CB&TL frequently; now I live in the boondocks in western NC, and the nearest coffee shop (as in a Starbucks or even a local hometown one; our town refused to buy fancy coffee from the two coffee shops that tried to open here; neither lasted more than 2 months) is 30 miles away.

14. Yikes! You have my deepest sympathy.
Effete left-coast intellekjool that I am, I'd simply die without easy access to a CB&TL.

You can buy their teas online, however. Go hither: http://coffeebean.com/Tempting-Teas-C39.aspx

4. I haven't been able to get a good, quality Green Tea here in Spain...
...but on base I buy a Chai/Green Tea mix made by Stash. It's quite good.

15. if I make it to Atlanta this week, I'll see if Whole Foods has some...
otherwise, my nearest organic market hasn't carried it recently. Perhaps I should just ask them to do so.

17. My local organic store doesn't sell white tea...
but they special order it for me. I'm sure your organic market will do the same for you for green tea. :hi:

18. You steap Green tea way different than regular tea. Otherwise it tastes bitter.
You turn the kettle off before the boil. Then you steep for 2 minutes or less. I think that is your problem.

19. Low grade crap
Try Teavana, Harney and Sons or Ten Ren
The Ten Ren store near me had some whole leaf tea in bags that is pretty good. Didn't see it on their website though

22. I like Stash Tea's decaf green tea.
I can get that at my grocery, and I drink a lot of it (the only caffeine I do anymore is two cups of coffee in the morning). It's not at all bitter, and I think you can buy it loose from Stash as well.
