I'm taking my son in for X-rays today.
We're leaving in about an hour. He slipped on the patio last night and hurt his leg. He got up and was limping around. There was no swelling or bruising that we could see so I told him to go to bed, figuring he'd just bumped it hard and it would be better in the morning. When he got up this morning he couldn't put any weight on it. There's still no bruising or swelling so I don't know what's wrong with it..I hope it isn't broken. My poor baby. I'm the worst mother in the world, making my kid just go to bed...I should have taken him to the emergency room last night. I suck.

2. Thanks Malta...
I gave him Ibuprofen last night, and put ice on it before I sent him limping off to bed. I can't imagine how bad it must be hurting if he can't even touch it to the floor.

7. That happens
You are doing it now. I wouldn't worry about last night. Sometime's thats the only way to see that it's bad enough to go to the doc. Kids are trixy -- especially at bedtime.

Wishing son a speedy recovery.

8. Guilt doesn't help..
Making an ailing kid sit and wait for six hours in an ER is bad. You did the right thing, even if it doesn’t feel like it.

9. The only thing you are guilty of is hyperbole
Which is not punishable by law.

You are a concerned Mom anxious about a possible injury, and there is nothing harder in the world than seeing your child in pain.

Good luck at the ER - I hope it's not serious. Please let us know how it goes.

26. Good news!
When I was a kid, for some reason I always wanted to be on crutches, I thought it would be cool. I was on crutches last summer. Not as fun as I thought!

Make sure you wrap something soft around the part that goes under the armpits.

It's not broken, but it's badly sprained. He'll be on crutches for awhile and has to wear a stabilizer. Thanks for all the good thoughts.

18. Good to hear.
Have him watch Spinal Tap and drink some chocolate milk. That will help the healing process.

20. I took the liberty of thoroughly indulging him today though,
to assuage my guilt. I let him have crappy drive through for lunch and bought him two king size Twix bars, PLUS funky tie-dye covers for his crutches. He's lovin it.

15. Sweetie listen, when my son was almost 3
Edited on Wed Mar-05-08 03:44 PM by mtnester
he fell out of bed one night (he sleeps like a dervish)

He did not seem too distressed, said his arm hurt a little. I made the boo boo noises and kisses, and put him back to bed.

In the morning, when he went to lift a glass of orange juice..SMASH..to the ground...he could not grip at all.

Broken wrist...so no, 25 years later >> I << am still the worst mom in the world

(sob...seriously...I am also "sensitive" right now)

19. Oh no!
Luckily it isn't broken..just badly sprained. Thanks for the reassurance though...it's been a tough day. 3 HOURS at the doctors office and another hour at the pharmacy getting himm fitted for crutches. 'He thinks its kind of cool now..I figure they won't be so cool in another couple hours when his pits are raw. Poor kid.

21. Amazingly, despite our love and concern
most of our children live to have their own and go through the same things

I am glad it was just a sprain for you guys :)

My son was fine, it was a greenstick fracture, but I felt like a poopy head for a long time (apparently I still do!) He went on to break many, many more bones (what a klutz)
