Looking for a freeware MP3/WAV to MIDI converter
Would like to make some custom ringtones for my old Nokia but it only supports MIDI format. So far what freeware I've turned up either does some kind of crap limited conversion or only converts in the opposite direction. Anyone know a good one?

3. Thanks but that one looks like it only goes MIDI -> WAV rather than
the opposite direction WAV->MIDI. There are converters out there but I don't feel like shelling out the $30 for something I may only use once or twice and may not be happy with the quality of the conversion -- MIDI's intended for recording 'pure' musical notes rather than more ordinary sound and so some compromises have to made in the conversion.

4. Try this site
http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads32.html

This is where I usually go for all things audio-related. If you can't find a freeware application, you might be able to find a full-featured shareware app.

5. MIDI files have information on what each instrument does.
You're just not going to be able to pick that out of ordinary music files. I don't see how what you want can possibly exist.
