Animal Story with Happy Ending (How My Co-workers Helped Rescue a Coyote)
I came to work today at about 2:00 (had to work late tonight), and as I drove into the parking lot I noticed an animal control vehicle. Odd, I thought. So I went inside and saw a bunch of people along the windows looking out at the field beyond the parking lot. Turns out a couple of employees saw some kind of animal apparently stuck in a fence and slogged through the snow and up a hill to investigate, and found a coyote with part of this wire fence wrapped around him somehow, and he couldn't get free. So they called the animal control people.

By the time I got there, two animal control officers were up on the hill trying to help the coyote but they couldn't approach him. Then they went back to their vehicle and apparently called for assistance, since soon another vehicle arrived with equipment for darting the critter. The animal control officers went back up the hill with their dart gun, tranquilized the coyote, cut him loose from the fence and went back down the hill.

By this time a whole bunch of people were lined up along the third-floor window watching the drama. Just as the animal control people returned to their vehicle, the coyote woke up and ran very fast down the hill and across a frozen pond into the woods.

We all cheered.

How cool was that?

1. My dear ocelot!
Now that's a story worth cheering!

Coyotes are normally very clever, but even they can get in a fix!

He (or she) was very lucky to get rescued...

Thanks for posting this wonderful story!

3. The Native Americans called the coyote "God's Dog"
because they are so smart.

4. They are also known as the "Trickster".
For Apaches they personify foolish, and or immoral behavior. Just saying..

2. That's great!
Totally opposite of a story I read in some "Field and Steam" type rag at the doctor's office when I took my mom the other day. Seems this guy (mmeber of some macho wannabe club) goes out at night and uses animals distress calls to lure coyotes so he can shoot them. I have no idea what the thrill is, but he wrote proudly about bagging a pick up truck full. :puke:

A gross part; how the recorded cries of a human infant brought all kinds of predators into the light.

7. We all have different life experiences.
I never thought much about coyotes until I moved out in the country. I enjoy listening to them at night, but when they start getting too brave and coming around to eat my pets and barn cats my attitude changes. About once a year a few have to be dealt with to keep the rest respectful. I don't enjoy the job and I am as humane as possible. But, if I'm going to have any domestic animals it has to be done.

Regards, Mugu
