Show me your pets...please
I heard this afternoon that my oldest cat, Peppercorn, is suffering from kidney failure and will likely not live much longer. :( She's 17, so it's not unexpected, but it's still hard to deal with. I think it's more important to remember good things than bad, though, so I'd like to see pics of any DU pets, and maybe some good stories.

The stuffed cat used to be mine, but was "appropriated" to different ownership. :P

And I'm sure she had a wonderful life at your side. I think what you can do is to make her last days very comfortable, and help to ease her passing to where she's free from suffering. And yes, to remember the good things is the right thing to do. Too bad we see them go before us, but then, they won't have to mourn us.

13. I agree, as long as she's not too uncomfortable ....
just spend as much time with her as you can. When I found out that my 21 year old cat's death was imminent (multiple organ failure, just OLD), I couldn't bring myself to euthanize her that night. She wasn't in pain, so I took her home and we spent one last day together. We shared a "last supper"; she always wanted me to share when I brought home spicy fried chicken from Popeye's. When we were both ready, I took her back to the vet and she died in my arms. And that was 7 years ago and tears are streaming down my face as I type this.

Check with your local human society or SPCA. Mine had a Pet Loss support group that was very comforting for me. Take care.

15. Thanks.
Unfortunately, I'm in college in Chicago and she's back home with my parents in New Mexico. If she holds though the weekend, they're going to take her to the vet on Monday and get a prognosis. If it is renal failure, that can apparently be managed for some time. I would like to get a chance to see her one last time over Spring Break, which depending on her condition might be possible. But, we'll see. It's hard to deal with in any case. :(

43. I think he was mixed with pointer, or something like it.
He was 85% (or so) great dane, and the rest I thought pointer because of his ears, tail and spots. His demeanor and personality were all dane, though.

Thanks for the compliment.

45. I think he was pure dane
Mantled (used to be called Boston markings) mixed with blue merle. Which would account for the spots and the slightly smaller size. (Merles are almost mini-danes)

47. His ears and tail were way off.
I've also not seen such spotting on his feet on other Bostons. He was also big boned, but weighed less than an equivalent male dane.

49. If he were Boston mixed with merle, that's what you'd get.
Pictures of some of the danes in local rescue;
Macy Gray (you can see the spottiness of the feet and the ear set)

Or you get something like Angus;

Wilma's a color cross of a Harlequin and a merle:

See why I say Zen looks pure?

51. I do
but again, it's beyond markings. His ears, tail and I'll add fur were not dane. I've had several danes in my life, and having spent a number of years with him, and having other dane experts spend time with him, I stand by my assertion.

For the record, I'm happy he wasn't purebred. I lost him early enough.

:(

I don't have any digital images of my first cat, Pixie. I need to scan some of them. He was a very amazingly beautiful Maine Coon. I got him when I was 13, and he lived until I was 31.

I adopted my second cat, copper when he was an adult, rescuing him from an abusive home. I was a poor college student and didn't own a camera, so I don't have any pictures of him.

I don't think anyone ever took any photos of the dog we had when I was a kid, Jojo. :(

The only digital images I have are of my current three cats.

Here's Millie Dear, sitting on my bed patiently waiting for attention. :)

And here's Silver and Gray Snuggled up in their bed. :loveya:

54. Aw, I'm sorry to hear that.
I lost my 15 year old Puddycat to thyroid tumors the end of December.

A week later, someone came down our private road and dropped off several young kitties. I adopted two, because I missed Puddycat so much. Oscar is such a lion king.

While Rosie is a water baby.

Since they found me, we are now one big happy family.

I wish an easy transition to the next life for your beloved kitty, and hope for you to find another one when you are ready.
