Okay... music preference question.
Edited on Sun Mar-09-08 10:08 PM by DarkTirade
I just recorded two versions of a piece I wrote several years ago, and I want to know which one people like better. And before you ask, yes, this was written while I was under the influence.

Under the influence of a severe lack of sleep. :) I had a ridiculous class schedule that year, and this was written when I was in a semi-awake state before my first class in the early A.M. started.

Anyhow, I did one fairly basic version with minimal electronic modification, and one version that's all gussied up. I recommend listening to them with headphones or good stereo speakers if you can, there's some interesting left-to-right effects going on. Especially with the second version.

Anyhow, just wanted to know what people thought: does it sound better simpler or with the extra trippy stuff thrown in there? :)

*edit*

I also did a version where it starts as one and shifts to the other.

1. Oooh... i like them both DT!

I know that doesn't really help you... i listened to the first, and the beginning of the second, and i was getting ready to say i liked the first better. You have a great voice, and i liked the simplicity of the first one. But now as the second one goes on, i'm sort of getting into the trippiness of it...

I wonder what it would be like if you started with the simple version, and transitioned into the second midway through???

2. Oddly enough, I'm rendering that out right now...
:P Gonna try four differen 'mix' versions... two that start with one and transition to the other and then back again, and two that shift slowly from one to the other.

5. FWIW, I like the second version (trippy) better.
You have a very nice voice. IMHO, at least in this song, you should use the instrumentals to showcase your voice, whereas here it felt like they were competing too much; IOW, I kept wishing I had a way to turn the volume of just the instruments down some, so I could hear the vocals better. Hope that makes sense.

:hi:

6. Well thanks.

I can give that a try. :) Each instrument was recorded on its own track, so I play with the volumes a bit and give that a try.

*edit* 'k, got the trippy version with more prominent vocals here. :) http://www.stickmanltd.com/practicesessions/room-strongvocals.mp3

11. Yeah! I like that better.

Ha ha, seriously I feel all stoned just listening to the song, all that reverb-y surround sound stuff is awesome.

:headbang:

But... I would still like to hear the instrumentals a little more in the background. Not a lot though, like maybe 75% of what they are now. Even without though, really nice work.

:applause:

12. I'm just afraid if I put the instrumentals too low, you won't be able to hear the reverby surround
sound stuff. :P

9. Seems to be the general concensus so far.
Fits the lyrics too. :)
