No, I am not a heretic - but I think that the David Tennant Dr. Who is the best ever.

Of course, I'm a HUGE Tom Baker fan - who isn't? He was the The Doctor when I first started watching, and he was awesome, AND the stories were quite good.

I'm also a big fan of Patrick Troughton and John Pertwee - both wonderful doctors who sometimes suffered from odd scripts, but were always great doctors.

And I'm also one of the apparent few fans of Peter Davison - I loved his Doctor, and I especially loved the scripts during his run. Really well written. Great stories, and wonderful acting, and a wonderful Doctor.

But David Tennant - pure excellence, and his scripts have also been fucking otherworldly in their brilliance. He has seriousness and a fantastic way of looking, in his eyes, like a Time Lord with near godlike abilities, and a morality that is beyond human understanding, while also maintaining that sense of "hey, isn't this is a lark?" attitude of the Doctor.

1. I haven't seen as much of the originals as I'd like

but so far the only doctor I didn't particularly like was the first. And that was before the series really got into its own swing of things and figured out what it was doing, so that doesn't really surprise me.

But yes, I love Tennant. I think he's at his best when he finally stops being nice and just does what has to be done. He's so friendly and cute and innocent seeming... until it comes down to the wire. And then he's fucking SCARY.
