Hey Hipsters, explain this to me
I was googling for a picture of how I feel when I leave the lounge, and stumbled upon THIS which I just found so bizarre...subcultures fascinate me. Do you think these folks have Hillary/Obama flamefests?

6. well, Hipsters are more in tune with these internet subcultures
If only to mock them.
Take LOLcats ( please) If I didn't post and read the DU lounge, I would never have seen a LOLcat.

As far as the op wtf, I'm unaware of what this is, who the followers are, the whole thing.

4. cosplayers aren't usually hipsters
They are much further down the food chain. Somewhere above Internet Tough Guys but below LARPers.

7. Actually I think cosplayers get a little more respect than larpers.
Edited on Sat Mar-15-08 02:38 PM by DarkTirade
People just let the larpers THINK they are more respected because nobody wants to be beaten to death with padded swords.

9. Cosplayers are the people you linked to in your original post.
The ones who dress up for anime/sci-fi/comic conventions and whatnot.

LARPers are people who participate in LARP - Live Action Role Playing. LARPing is role playing much like Dungeons and Dragons and its ilk, but instead of sitting at a table and rolling dice, you actually get up and do the things your character is doing. So they have padded weapons and they'll actually go and beat the crap out of each other. :)

10. I pronounce you hipster par extraordinaire
too cool. Is the "Furry sex" thing an offshoot of LARP, one wonders aloud.

12. Nope, furries are their own thing.

There's a big difference between role-playing games and role-playing in sex.

Most namely that your average RPGer doesn't lose his or her virginity until fairly late in life. :P

I keed, I keed.

No seriously, we're all geeks. If I wasn't a musician too I never would have dated in high school.
