DU Jam Sessions?

Anybody down with the idea? We could have jam sessions in various cities. Sign up with your general location and instruments you play.

guitar, bass, violin, a little bit of keyboard, voice and a few random renaissance instruments that I don't own so it's kinda pointless to offer to play 'em. :)

I also like to write music, although I suck at writing lyrics.

I find that interesting...a loooong time ago I played viola. I have a lot of respect for stringed instruments cause of it....

but it was my major at my last school.

I wanted to switch over to composition at some point, I've always preferred creating to performing.

I'm still a bit rusty because I'm not playing on a regular basis. I guess when I dropped out of school I kinda rebelled against playing for a while. :P

7. Very cool! :^) My best childhood friend played viola and her brother played cello. They were in

a Suzuki method group.

9. Unfortunately so was I.

I didn't realize how badly that had set me back until I played in groups of people who'd done Suzuki and people who hadn't. :\ It's a great way to get started, but it's NOT the way to go once you've got a basic grasp of things.

saxophone. He's actually not too bad, apart from the occasional squeak or missed note. *busting with pride*

13. I had some... personal issues with the saxaphone.

Most namely, the fact that my sister put a Kenny G CD in the CD player in the living room when we were kids and refused to take it out for MONTHS.

For the next few years I would actually start to feel physically ill at the sound of the saxaphone, or any similar single reed instrument.

I'm over it now, thanks to an orchestra conductor in college who managed to have us do some jazzy stuff that helped me ease back into being able to listen to the saxaphone again. But there were a few years where I just couldn't stand the sound of it.

All because of Kenny G and my sister's obsession with bad music. :\

14. LOL My son likes jazz and for such a tiny school we have a pretty good little jazz band. I think

he'll join that when he's ready. Since our town has no high school the kids can choose where they want to go. One of the choices has a really excellent music program. If he sticks with the sax he might well choose that one. http://www.georgestevensacademy.org/1205107517222277/site/default.asp

16. not real likely, but if you ever came round to visit with your violin he might request

"Devil Went Down to Georgia". Really digs that song at the moment, which is weird because I really dug it at about his age when it was first released.

25. Oh, and I forgot to mention...

for any other musicians in the Rochester area... I also have recording equipment. :) Not a whole lot, but enough to at least do some multi-track recording and whatnot. :)

26. I have Friends that play

We have a weekly 'jam session' as I was told it is not 'band practice' there is no 'band'. There are 4 guys who play guitar. A stand up base and mandolin. A keyboard player. Jimmy brings a second mandolin so I won't bring my banjo. Yes, I'm a manipulative scoundrel and I actually can't play. The boys have been playing acoustic music together for about 20 years. I'm the worst at remembering the names of the songs or the words. But I'll see if I can remember a few: Face on the cutting room floor, Grapefruit Juicyfruit, Pencil-thin mustache, Closer to Fine, Pacing the cage, Hello in there, Souvenirs, Save the Whales, Fare thee Well, Fire on the mountain, Amy, Some Beatles and Tom Petty. You know folk music. I have friends who play electric rock stuff and some who go more bluegrass. As you might have guessed I have insinuated myself into groups of musicians.
