1. I don't, but I can't be proud of an accident of birth.
I guess I forgot that today is that drinking holiday.

3. MEEEEEE!!!!!!
Half German/Half Polish.

I love that I'm tall, good bone structure, blonde hair, and great immune system.

Oh - and I can handle my liquor! Woohoo!!!!

I'm tired - SO TIRED - of people asking me why I'm not wearing green. Or why my house isn't decorated. And when I tell them why, I get this: "But EVERYBODY is Irish today". And then when I say "Well what if I don't want to be?", they get this look of bewilderment on their faces. I'm quite pleased with my heritage, thank you very much. :)

LynneSin.....you and I live mighty close to each other (I'm a few mins from the DMB - yes, a TOLLBOOTH area). As two of the few ZERO IRISH Americans, we should find a song, a cheer, something.....maybe a rousing rendition of "God Save the Queen" that we can sing tonight, to drown out the sound of millions of Irishmen that will be whooping it up in the tristate tonight. ;)

6. Cool!
BTW, I'm English/German.

Tonight I'm doing the same thing I did Saturday night - pray that no drunk hits my car. I live right in the heart of all the festivities here in Wilmington and my car is street parked. So I'm always nervous someone is going to go barrelling down my street causing havoc. At least Saturday night WIlmington does the Loop, which all the drunks can take the bus from bar to bar. But tonight they'll have to drive to get around and that can be scary

:scared:

BTW, I'm having my DU gathering at my place on April 19th - I hope you can come

From the "Independent Collegian" website:

WORDS FROM THE ANTI-ST. PATRICK'S DAY FAN
by Ed Carroll

March 17, 2008

Everyone is not Irish on St. Patrick's Day.

Can we get this stupid notion out of our heads?

OK, so you want an excuse to get plastered all day on a weekday? Let's ignore the fact that you already have one - you're in college - but I can live with everyone wanting a specific holiday for it.

What bothers me is how everyone thinks being Irish is so cool. Everybody wants to be Irish on St. Patrick's Day, but nobody wants to be Irish on March 18.

Everyone thinks red hair, fair skin, freckles and Flogging Molly is great on St. Patrick's Day. Come March 18, everyone realizes how terrible it is to have red hair, fair skin and freckles. People who enjoy good music put away their burned Flogging Molly CD and its crappy fake Irish rock until they decide to torture their ears again on the next St. Patrick's Day.

I'm Irish. Not as much as I originally thought (that family history project in grade school rocked my family), but I still have the look down - ginger hair, pale skin and freckles. On St. Patrick's Day, it's OK - if I happen to get drunk, I'm just fitting the stereotype on this day, and that's humorous.

But let's suppose I get drunk on a day that isn't the old snake-charmer's feast day - and yes, I am of legal age for this. Then I fit the bad stereotype of a drunken Irishman. Why is this OK for one day and not all the other days of the year? It's a vicious double standard.

So I'm going to be the anti-St. Patrick this year. I'm not going to get drunk today. I can't say I won't have a sip of green beer, because oddly-colored food is cool, but I'm not going to get drunk. It won't be that big of a deal anyway, I have class, and I'm sure my professor will appreciate me not coming in trashed and disruptive. I'm pretty sure the professors for my classes tomorrow will appreciate my not being hung over. My mother will be ecstatic as well.

I'm not going to wear green today, either. I think the rest of the population will have the green on lockdown, so I don't feel like I'm holding anyone back. Maybe I'll throw the holiday a bone and wear my white Cleveland Browns Brady Quinn jersey. He used to play for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Close enough to green for me!

So enjoy your day today, however you may celebrate it. Wear your green. Crank up your crappy Flogging Molly. Get crunk, stay drunk at the pub. Enjoy it. But you're not Irish. And you don't want to be.

 Poor guy.

20. Not a drop, proud of my heritage.
Nothing against those with Irish blood, though.

My grandmother, however, went out of her way to wear orange or something anti-green on St. Patrick's Day. She didn't care for the Irish, nor the Italians. My choices in girlfriends likely would've given her palpitations.

21. 1/64th (green) Irish, lots of Scots Irish, some English, some Welsh, some Scottish
Typical Southern ancestry. The Irish Irishman (born in County Down, which is why I'm guessing he was green) was captured on an English frigate in 1776, changed sides, ended up in upcountry South Carolina married to a young woman with English ancestry.

German, and some bit of Europe nearish to Budapest but not necessarily Hungary (some confusion on that in the family records. They spoke Russian, but because they were Russian Catholic.)

Not Southern, though. Very very, New England and PA. :). :)

My ancestors were Vikings, and they definitely raided the Celtic countries. In fact, I have some relatives in Norway who have black hair, blue eyes, and freckles.
