I just threw away a 15 dollar bag of dog food- I hope my dogs are going to be OK.
I had to work this weekend & ran out of dog food Saturday. (poor planning on my part) I was rushed & bought a bag of "old roy" food at Wal-mart because it was on my way home & they didn't have the regular food I usually give the fellas. I filled the bowls that night and the guys seemed ok with it. I got home Sunday night & one of the guys had thrown up- the food hadn't been touched since I had left in the morning. I went into town & found some of their regular brand after throwing away the bag of Wal-mart crap. I hope my guys will forgive me.

2. Changing brands suddenly can upset puppy tummies.
If you really want to transition them onto another food, the way to do it is by gradually changing the mix.

But doggies throw up sometimes, and they can go without eating for days; perhaps there is no harm done.

4. I won't be changing their food, next time I will just hunt down the right stuff.
I feel kind of bad I didn't spend the extra time looking for their brand. I work 12 hour shifts, 45 minute drive each way & I was tired/not thinking straight. An added 20 minutes to find the right stuff would have been time well spent.

3. They should be.
As the poster above me said, an abrupt change in food can really play with a dogs digestive system. Especially if you went from a higher quality feed to something like Ole Roy.

Although, rather than throwing it away, if you have an animal shelter in the area, they might appreciate the donation. It's crap, but it's food that they don't have to buy/may not otherwise have.

5. I opened a can of my cats regular cat food. Both my cats wouldn't touch
it. I figured it had gone bad so threw it away. Thanks to my cats for knowing the difference. I hate cleaning up messes.

8. That was a smart move.
There were a lot of people who could not figure out why their pets would not eat food right before the pet food recall situation. So they put gravy on it and stuff like that to entice them to eat only to discover that there was a good reason the animals were initially refusing the food.

9. My cat didn't take to Newman's Own.
Iams makes him sick too and he can't stand canned cat food. He likes the cat food you can get at Trader Joes.

10. why didn't you return it?
you don't make it any easier for other consumers when you humbly pay for a product that is dangerous

what makes this really sad is that walmart is one of the stores where it is easy to return items and they don't give you a lot of shit, depending on what i've wanted to do when i returned a defective item, i've been able to get another item, get the cash back, or get a gift card to buy something else

you shouldn't just throw $15 in the trash and reward walmart for screwing up, take back the bad dog food and get a refund

please if not for yourself do it for the next consumer

don't train stores to believe that they needn't care about making good when they sell a bad product, hold their feet to the fire as it were

12. Because it might have just been the dogs being sensitive.
Only one of the six threw up, the others just seemed to avoid eating it. If it had been their normal brand & they had that reaction I would have returned it.
