2. I would probably go with
Maynard G. Krebs, but I'm too young to see it on regular teevee and too old and poor to see on on TV Land.

3. Gilligan
thanks to the preponderance of re-runs.

Maynard G. Krebs was by far the more interesting character, though.

"Who, me? Oh, come now!"

5. Maynard was one of my childhood heroes
and probably the first "sympathetic" treatment of a counter-cultural character in American TV , even if it painted him as silly and non-threatening. But that's what was good about his portrayal; that a beatnik was not a threatening, dangerous to all that's good and wholesome in America type of character, but cuddly and lovable in his own way.

8. Maynard G. Krebs with
Dobie Gillis and his many loves....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Many_Loves_of_Dobie_Gillis

The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis was a situation comedy that ran on CBS in the USA from 1959-1963. The television series and some episode scripts were adapted from a 1951 collection of short stories of the same name, written by Max Shulman, that also inspired the 1953 film The Affairs of Dobie Gillis with Debbie Reynolds, Bob Fosse, and Bobby Van as Dobie Gillis. A follow-up novel, I Was a Teen-Age Dwarf, appeared in 1959. This program was from Martin Manulis Productions in association with 20th Century Fox Television; creator Shulman also wrote the theme song.

Dobie Gillis, "Dobie Gillis": Dobie was all about impressing the ladies. It was his only goal in life. Which made him the perfect buddy for Maynard G. Krebs, someone who had no goals whatsoever.

10. Zelda's a California State Senator, a Dem, and
Graduated Harvard Law. Openly gay, too.

Always wondered what happened to her. Annoying Zelda!
