"Alice's Restaurant" just came on
Turner Classic Movies channel. Reminds me of my hippie days. Love this movie.

1. I didn't know there was a movie,
thought there was only a song!! Duh for me! I have a work-buddy that plays that every Christmas Day. UN (or maybe not)fortunately, I can't get away from my workstation to listen to it in its entirety (that word looks funny---spellcheck??...oh it's probably not a word...oh well, it's the Lounge...forgive me!!)

There's really a movie?? Why should I ask that question, when nowadays they make movies out of Geico commercials? Disregard me and my post, not a problem!

2. Yes, it is a movie.
It was released in 1969. (I would never disregard you.) I thought it was so cool when it first came out. I still think it's cool, but more in a nostalgic way. Reminds me of my old boyfriend. *sigh*

3. I saw it in the theater when it came out.
Recently, I rented it from Netflix. It was interesting and revealing to watch the entire movie with Arlo Guthrie's voiceover commentary.

4. I saw him last year
when he played a free concert at LL Bean in Freeport. He was great!
He sang/told Alice's Restaurant. What a night :)

9. You were there?
I didn't see you there! The part I enjoyed most about the concert was when he said how would you like to sing this for over 40 years? Still relevant, still funny--with the circles & arrows on the back....

11. What do you mean you didn't see me??!!

My girlfriend and I had so much fun going. A night out without the kids. We never get to do that. WE ended up standing on the road over by the big boot entrance. We took the kids to Dan Zanes & friends earlier in the summer too. That was a lot of fun. I wish he would come back again, but I don't see it on the his tour date list.

5. I saw that movie when I was a little kid.
I was born in '61, and my whole life I'd been told that these dirty hippies were some bad news, and that they'd be the end of decent society. So then I'm about 10 yrs old and I'm seeing this flick and I'm thinkin', "These folks seem kinda nice and funny and clever." Ruined me for life...lol.

Flash forward to the 21st century, and looky who's gonna be the end of decent society. The hippies? Nope. It was The Man, all along!

6. I watched part of it...
but it was after midnight here in Minneapolis, so I couldn't stay awake.

My overwhelming thought was "Arlo looks so YOUNG." According to the Wikipedia biography, he was 22 at the time, but he looks more like 18.

8. I never saw the movie
I have to admit though, that the song always bugged me. I understand the underlying point and agree with it, but I can't stomach the whole bit about throwing a bunch of garbage over a hillside - whether there was already garbage there or not.

Sometimes, I'm too damn literal minded. :P

10. I saw the Pete Seeger special on PBS, with Arlo doing some commentary
And it really made me want to see Alice's Restaurant again!

You can get anything you want,
At Alice's Restaurant (except for Alice).
