Ughhh. Does anyone else watch The Biggest Loser?
I just hate the arrogant men on that blue team.

Love the trainer Bob. Hate the guys.

I'm so sad the women are getting voted off.

And the last woman I liked got the ax last night.

The teams were stacked soooo unfairly this season.

Reality shows. :argh:

1. I've been watching it...
...it's not like these teams were chosen by the show or the producers. Everyone has been allowed to pick the teams or it's been the result of individual performances, etc. And isn't it just every person for themselves now?

I know what you mean there's definitely a "blue team" loyalty going on but it doesn't seem particularly out of line. Without getting into sweeping gender generalizations I think the nature of the show and the goal/challenge/etc. tend to favor men. A lot of the men on the show have tended towards middle aged men who at one point were very athletic and in shape but fell out of it. So they have that core base to get back to and maybe have a history of excercise and working out. Most of the women seem to be the type who have struggled most of their lives with weight issues so they are trying to get to a place they may have never been before.

3. I watch it
I'm not a fan of Brittney, but I hate the arrogance of those guys even more.

I love both Bob and Jillian, but I think Jillian's approach to fitness is awesome. So I tend to cheer on her players more than Bob's.

4. Kelley sold out the women by voting for the least threat to all of them.

she sure SUCKS in the challenges.

5. I watch it. I know, I'm surprised at myself.
Originally, a few folks asked me to check it out for my opinion on the training/methods. It's been interesting. I don't care for some of the training methods, but it's not my show.

For the record, on the very first episode, I called Danny for the win if he stays uninjured. He's male, the youngest, is one of the guys with the most weight to lose, and by every formula will win this.

I also think Mark will likely stay under the yellow line for the rest of the show. He's lost just about all the weight he's going to.

7. Yea, I wished they'd explain more about the diet
aspect, in regard to training/methods.

There are so many people who don't understand you eat to lose weight I guess.

It's just that you eat the right way.

They explain this a little bit, but I'd love to hear more.

I can only watch people running on the treadmill for so long.

9. It always seems to be stacked against the women
the guys are usually enormous, so even minor changes in their diets would start a fast weight crash. meanwhile the women have to work like hell to get the process started.

10. Sounds right. I know I can drop 5 pounds faster than most women I know.
I don't know why. And I don't watch Biggest Loser. But my life experience has been that men can drop weight faster than women.

11. it took me a while to start the loss when I was in bootcamp
and got quite a bit of yelling at - as if I had any control over it. Then when it did start, and I was losing 7 pounds a week, I got yelled at for not eating enough. *snort*

12. That, having their periods, and guys losing weight faster make it very unfair
They should have male and female teams and have one male and one female winner. This is a HUGE point of contention about this show amongst viewers (ie TWOP): it's impossible for women to win.

LOVE JILLIAN!!!!!!!!

13. You left out one very important thing
What is the one additional thing that an obese but mobile male has? Serious core body strength and muscle. Each of those guys that started out weighing 300+ pounds has already built up sincere muscle mass. Just climbing stairs is the equivalent of a 180 pound guy getting on a stair climber with a 150 lb barbell across his shoulders. You have to be really strong just to move that much mass around in day to day activities. Therefore, having that core muscle is going to burn a LOT more calories much more quickly (muscle is "metabolically active" and burns calories/fat). So, on the same diet/exercise program, the 300 lb man is going to burn calories at a much faster rate after any initial adjustment to activity change.

I agree, a male and a female winner would be best. I guess they try to offset the unfairness with the gameplay aspect of the show.

15. I guess I included that in how men lose weight faster than women
But, you're right: not everyone knows that.

I loathe some of the gameplay stuff, like waterloading. At least on the Aussie version, they (and Bob and Jillian) were honest about it. I don't like it, because I KNOW from reading boards that this show truly does inspire people and does change lives for the better.

Hey, read your PM in about two minutes.

14. i totally agree, it's really unfair the way it is now and i was so pissed when they voted off
Brittney, she wasn't the biggest threat but they booted her ass home. Also, they did a reunion show back in the fall and almost every former contestant that showed up and got weighed in had gained back weight and not like 10 pounds, more like 20 or 30 so as much as i like to watch BL they should try and focus on maintenance.

It's taken me 2 years and 9 months to lose 90 pounds but i'm glad because i think i have a much better chance of keeping this off because i live it everyday and not on some compressed made for tv schedule.

16. Some people have kept it off, and I'm so proud of them!
Good for you: losing it slow is a good way to do it. Most people can't work out five hours a day.

18. some have for sure but many of them didn't, they didn't gain it all back but
the whole maintenance issue really isn't discussed and while losing it is hard, keeping it off imo is far more difficult.

23. I don't think the contestants are "taught" very well.
At least from what I've seen on the show.

Seriously, if you isolate someone and are strict about diet and exercise and dangle a big cash reward out there, they'll lose the weight. It doesn't look like the show really teaches them about the what/why of diet and exercise. 12 weeks of bootcamp will pull weight off anyone, and the very obese even more so.

19. I'm pissed as hell about last night!
Edited on Wed Mar-19-08 10:21 AM by MrCoffee
Ali was smart to vote for Brittany, but it still sucks to see Brittany leave, because she worked her ass off harder than anyone else there, and had such small numbers, but she didn't really let her frustration show.

I'm pissed at Dan because he's just a wanker. I'm pissed at all the guys because of their stupid-ass PRIDE tatoos. I'm superpissed at Jillian for her "I'm a brainless fuckwit who's going to mess with your body chemistry" bullshit.

Brittany wore the hell out of that dress. Hubba Hubba.

Not that there's anything wrong with crying.

But spectators were showing less emotion when the Hindenburg crashed than these guys. :eyes:

And that Roger guy. Barf. "Prah'd on three..." Ughhh

29. no, nothing wrong with crying by jeez louise every week it's a like a kleenex commercial
Sir Cries a lot bawls when he gets sent home, comes back for the weigh in and bawls, just collapses in to a heap when he gets back and then has had at least 4 more crying jags since then, get a handle on it for fucks sake. I really, really, really hope Rogers gets kicked off.

28. Sir Cries a Lot...LOL
During the catwalk scene, they showed his wife waiting for him, and MrsCoffee said "I hope she has some kleenex with her, because he's gonna cry."

She totally called it. Not like it's that hard to make the "Mark's gonna cry again" call.

25. Don't be mad at Jillian. There was something going on
with Brit's body that required drastic action.

She wasn't losing weight at the pace of most of the other women on the show, and so it was worth the risk.

As it turned out, she lost two pounds, which I think was more than she lost the previous week when she dropped below the yellow line.

And she did look good in that dress. And I'm gay.

But they are not as fit as the ones who are being trained on the show.
